Interesting, I just spoke with a friend who is a Steel Worker for a prominent steel company who is working on a couple of other major projects currently underway in Winnipeg. I asked him about 300 Main. He said he heard that it was a bit of a gong show but I found the interesting part (I had no idea) that it should only take 10-15 steel workers to put up that building. We seam to constantly complain that we only ever see some scattered workers on site. Apparently they currently working with less than that (hence the gong show) but it opened my eyes as to how many workers that trade really requires.

Speaking of the steel...has the next set of it arrived on site yet? I'm working from home now and I can't tell from the webcams.

I am unsure why the crane is not located in the elevator shaft and just jacked up? It seems to me a very awkward way to deal with the crane.

Yup, Its been noted by many on the job. Seems like an expensive miscalculation by someone

In most high rise construction projects, the crane is on the outside:

The CIBC in tower in Toronto with concrete core and steel fabrication dropped it in the shaft and it went up like a bean sprout. My own projects on King Street in Toronto put the crane in the shaft as well... they must have had a reason but it seems awkward none the less... I just wish them well and hope they can quickly make some progress and get the whole thing closed in before next winter.

Not surprising. That kind of construction is tough to do while also social distancing 2m from the next guy.

Yeah but it’s easy on this site because there’s so few workers. 50 guys on site absolute tops and everyone’s spread out everywhere.

^ can't speak to roofing, but cladding (and windows) are a two person job typically - in close quarters. There won't be many windows getting installed anywhere in the next little while. Unless people aren't following the guidelines as it relates to COVID.

I was wondering how or if they were going to block off all the ugly mechanical along Fort. They installed pretty nice high fencing/lattice along the sidewalk, looks similar to the what the city put in on Rorie and Lily. It looks nice already, and it looks like it's designed to have vines planted and growing up it. Nice touch.

The glass is also starting to go in on the corner of Graham and Fort. Obviously the Fort streetscape isn't ideal, but it seems like they've really done the best they could to make it look nice and appealing. Curious to see how the northern mall entrance on Fort will turn out.

A few months back when there were rumours about the floor count being reduced on 300 main, I didn't believe them. But now with construction stalled by the virus (who knows how long) and the economy in a mess, I must admit I'm worried about the possibility. Hope I'm wrong and all proceeds as planned!
