Okay. That's why this is a hypothetical discussion, not a premonition.

Yes it does. The conversation is about a megathrust earthquake (8.5 or higher) hitting the Pacific Northwest. Everywhere from Portland to Whistler would be affected. Seattle is built on sandy soil and gravel, while Vancouver is built on solid bedrock, meaning Seattle could potentially be wiped out. Vancouver would be damaged, but nowhere near as bad as Richmond and Seattle. I don't see the US sacrificing even part of its fleet for us in that hypothetical event. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

There is generally one "focal" location where the strongest shaking (the stuff measuring 9) occurs, and the rest of the fault line is of reduced magnitude. It is unlikelly Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver would all be affected with magnitude shaking. Generally, most damage with subduction earthquakes occur due to tsunami, not the earthquake itself (unless you live in a place where the buildings aren't built to withstand earthquakes). Its a good thing the subduction zone is on the western side of Vancouver Island/Olympic Peninsula, which will receive (and block) the largest tsunamis from reaching the cities.

There have been 85 so far this year. Its one of the reasons the mountains get bigger.

I live only 3 hours from Sudbury and didn't feel anything.

When I was in North Bay I felt the earthquake that was near Ottawa.

We've had magnitude 3.2 earthquakes outside Thunder Bay, you only really feel them if that happen right underneath your house.

A 2.7 M earthquake just happened below Banff. Obviously not a big deal, just interesting that the epicentre was right at Banff.

Weak but interesting. Hmmm. Is there a fault line where the mountains/foothills meets the prairie? We have a fault line where the two mountain ranges meet.

Significant earthquake in Idaho between the Salmon Mountains and Boise Mountains that was felt all the way in Calgary. Higher magnitude quake than the one that struck in Utah earlier this month.

Nah, it is a bit north of a couple of old eruption spots. If Yellowstone is going to erupt, it is going to come from a new magma dome further east as the continental crust moves west. The current magma dome is cooling down.
