This tower is so great.
Guangzhou is already one of my favourite cities in China, and this
tower will just improve it.

So what's the current height? And I imagine the "poles" will be covered in some kind of plastic right? Or will the concrete stay exposed?

Looking at the first renderings I would say yes. On those it´s shining in the sunlight.

Best telecom tower in the world. I have visited many in my life, and this is every bit the equal of the Eiffel.

I don't think that this will become the 21st century equivalent of the Eiffel Tower. Paris at the time was one of the most visited and well-known international cities in the world and the Eiffel gave became something to put on all the postcards. I doubt that the average person has even heard of Guangzhou. If this was built in, say, Tokyo or Los Angeles then it would become a landmark.

^yep, but Guangzhou will soon become part of the biggest city in the world - already over 40 million people live in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK area that is the Pearl River Delta, an area denser and smaller than LA. Along with the Yangtze River Delta (read: Shanghai, tipped to become the worlds biggest, most productive and richest urban area that will overtake the Pearl River Delta), it will form the tail of the dragon (the Yangtze being the 'mouth').

Guangzhou is fast building for its coming prestige:

Part of the CBD, you can just see the TV tower across the river from the huge twin towers at the back:

all supertalls:

Reminds me of the 2,000 ft tv tower proposal in New York before it was changed to this monster:

^ yep, which in turn was based on the Sydney Tower 1981

...in turn based on Kobe Port Tower, Japan 1963. I think this one's the original

nice, but aspire tower dates from 2007. Seriously someone needs to trademark this design, they'd make a mint.
