This beats getting an expansion team with rookies and minimum players and sucking for years even in a watered down league like MLS.

PSV financing the stadium is big too.

MLS & Columbus have been around for more than "three seasons." In fact, they've been pretty solid for a while now. Additionally, the Crew have already won a Cup (2008) and played for another in 2015.

You know what? Atlanta is an expansion team (started play last season). And they're doing pretty damn good.

Ladies and Gentlemen, soccer teams do not need a nickname/mascot!

I, personally, have no problem with either Austin FC or Austin Athletic. They are powerful names. Trying to give it a nickname has a very high chance of lessening the impact and sounding too gimmicky.

Leaked logo for David Beckham's Miami expansion team. If this is real, looks like they will be calling themselves "Inter Miami" which I think is perfect. MMXX for 2020, their projected debut year.

I'm aware they've been around for more than 3 seasons. I'm talking about the team and roster right now. They've gone through a rebuild in 2016 that flipped the roster from aging vets to raw but talented youngsters. That's what I'm referring to, the team's roster as currently constituted. Their championship from 2008 has nothing to do with the team we're getting now. No one from that 2008 team, including ownership is still with the Crew.

ATL expansion wasn't ordinary. They had a successful and talent rich USL team that made the jump into the MLS easily. ATL's the rare outlier kinda like the Vegas Golden Knights. 99% of expansion teams can expect alotta losing their first couple years.

Although I hate what I saw happen in the ACC -- the completely obvious personal distaste by certain council members trying to fake it as helping the city, and the micromanagement by others (should be the city manager that handles that) -- the end result is quite a groundbreaking deal.

I agree with some observers that this is probably the best deal any city has negotiated with a pro sports team owner, extracting the maximum possible benefit and concessions. It's almost Bernie Ecclestone-esque but in reverse.

I think some national media may catch on and write about it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it starts to set a new standard for pro teams wanting to relocate to desirable cities.

Oh, and they should name it the Waterloo FC. Gotta look ahead with these things.

Actually, that is not correct. About 320 home rule cities in Texas (Austin included) have a recall provision in their charters. And, there have been at least 48 recall elections in Texas since January 1, 2013.

Apologies...What USL team, in Atlanta, moved up to be Atlanta's expansion team?

There was almost one here just 2 years ago, for Ann Kitchen over the Uber/Lyft thing. Apparently you need 10% of the voters in the district to sign a petition, then it goes on the ballot.

Well she lost, she gave a hard NO, and this part is over, but she still has a seat and say on the ACC. Hopefully not for much longer. Btw, I hearby name all feces from all living creatures after her. When ever anything has a bowel movement, it shall be called a Leslie Pool.

I don't think it's wrong for her to hold him to his promises - anyone should. But she was downright rude and unprofessional in many ways. Sore loser.

I like Sporting Austin but my guess is they wouldn't duplicate the "sporting" brand that Kansas City has.

My choices:

Austin Cannons FC
Austin Bats FC
Austin Chaps FC

I like the idea of a cannon shooting out a soccer ball. Maybe as a secondary logo, not primary.

Austin Athletic FC would also be fine with me. There may be some excellent name ideas I haven't heard. Something to do with music maybe?

Austin Trippers
Austin Benders
Austin Rhapsody
I recently saw a suggestion on Twitter for Austin Knights...as in Austin-ites. I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on it, but it's an interesting idea.

I like that idea a lot. It's classic yet original and unique in the MLS at the same time. It works as an outreach to the Latino community as seen above in the Miami logo. "Atletico Austin club de futbol"

I’ve seen some of the more bitter folks calling us the Austin Horsethieves on social media. If we’re going to be one of the more despised teams (temporarily) why not embrace it? As a tribute to Prince, may I suggest:

“The team formerly known as the Columbus Crew”
