With all due respect, the projects you mentioned and this one are not remotely comparable.

A 500 acre dome would be 1600m across. The current largest dome in the world is 300m across.

500 acres of glass that both sides need to be cleaned regularly.

Drew, their engineer has it figured out. I mean, shes done some land development. She must be an expert in massive buildings, the largest the world has ever seen. Right?! haha

This is like that mega mall that was to be built in Saskatchewan. Except the mall has way more chance of going ahead, and it's never going to happen.

She seems to be a Civil Engineer (meaning site drainage, ect.) so her expertise would only be limited to figuring out how to make sure the surface runoff water from the roof and surrounding areas "get gone" so to speak. Apparently she is also somewhat of an expert in property subdivision.

Really, she has the easy job.

This project is really heavy on the structural and mechanical systems.

We do have a firm in Winnipeg that has experience in designing stadiums and one that can do steel cube stages.

For context, Assiniboine Park minus the forest is only 400 acres. Unless they know something about carbon nano tubes that we don't, you can imagine the folly of trying to enclose an area so large. Maybe if they were planning an interconnected series of buildings it would be feasible--and phasable--but they aren't. They're planning a giant square.

The more I think about this, the angrier I get. Where does this clown get off trying to hold anyone hostage over such crap?

I was trying to figure out a reasonable depth for a roof truss to clear span this length, but I broke my calculator.

It would be in the hundreds of feet of depth. Likely making this the tallest building in Winnipeg easily.

You would have to divert Canada's share of steel fabrication towards Winnipeg while this thing is getting built.

Should Canada start declaring war on other countries now in order to forcibly seize their steel-producing heavy industry assets so that production can be diverted to this project? If so, which countries should be targeted first?

Can the Port of Churchill be adapted to handle multiple daily panamax+ cargo ships delivering full loads of steel?
