Riverside Resources also broke ground recently on a 39-story condo tower at Fifth and West streets downtown
When did that happen? Anyone been by there lately?

I think that's just sloppy reporting. The lot hasn't even been cleared of the old buildings yet.

More likely the tower has moved forward with demolition of the Texas Association Press commencing. I guess you could consider it U/C.

They had their "groundbreaking" so to speak. They announced that financing was in place and that construction would start following the demo/site prep. For all practical purposes this project is underway; just not officially U/C.

Demolition begins downtown to make way for glitzy condo tower
Dec 5, 2014, 2:45pm CST

Jan Buchholz
Staff Writer-
Austin Business Journal

The wrecking crews descended this week on the former headquarters of the Texas Press Association at 718 W. Fifth St.

Austin-based Riverside Resources purchased the site and is building Fifth & West, a 39-story condo tower that will be one of the tallest buildings in the city when it's finished in fall 2017. Click on the photo to see a slideshow of the site and renderings of the new tower.

Demolition is expected to take 15 working days, according to project spokesman Scott Dunaway.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but here's the project's website:

I'm pleased to inform you all that as of this afternoon, the Texas Press Association building has been fully reduced to a pile of rubble. Into 2015 and into the sky

TWC apparently just got word of this project. At least the video shows the progress at the site for those who don't get Downtown too often.

Here's screen cap from the video:

Seems to me that TWC news picks up the reporter rejects that can't get jobs with the local news stations. Also I detect a bit of NIMBY in her reporting too lol. And what is up with that dude?? When asked how he thinks it will be in 5 years his reply was it will be more like Manhattan... Now personally I would love it if that was the case but we are nowhere near that level nor will we be even close in 5 years. Lol

LOL. TWC News definitely seems like a place for interns or reporters "in transition" between markets.

Yeah, but I think they do a pretty good job reporting real news stories. Their political reporting (local and state) tends to be somewhat more detailed than you might find on the local commercial stations.

Drove by a few days ago, not much activity but saw a stack of pvc pipes laying by the fence. Also there were a few workers present.

I thought it was odd that the Texas Press Association building was torn down but the concrete section of the old carport up against Austin Urban Vet was not taken down. Drove by today and the carport has now been torn down so hopefully we'll see more activity at the site very soon.

This appears to be a "new" rendering:

Lookin gooood! I bet if they added an antenna or spire to that boxy corner it would add so much sexiness.

Not only would a spire look nice, it would also give us another 500+ footer.
