We took a look at Eddie Meyer's Trading Post (used airplane lot) at Third Street and Vermont. Could have sworn I'd seen a head-on image of the sign to the right (with an address).

The "Trading Post" image/s were from '46. No obvious CD listing for that year. Curious about any contemporary aerial images depicting the aircraft. Noted a couple of undated aerials documenting the (eventual) construction of Ralph's Groceries at Third and Vermont. The images certainly establish enough open land for small aircraft to touch and go, and views of the Sacatela / Bimini Slough.

On the left of the above photo, across the street in the background, is most likely the marquee of the Paramount (El Capitan) Theater,
so I'm guessing that she is in Toff's Coffee Shop that was on the corner in the area of all the photos in the post.

We're south of the Boulevard on Schrader. I can't explain the sign (above) unless the street name was changed at some point. Schrader almost lines up w/ Hudson. Neither cross Hollywood Blvd (Schrader running south of it and Hudson to the north):

That's the Hudson Apartments, formerly the Hillview (Parcher & Strong 1916-20). It was financed by Lasky and Goldwyn and is no stranger to the thread:

ethereal_reality - St. Brendan was our parish church in the 1950s and early 60s and also for me in the 1970s. I thought the view looked familiar right away. I remember the Craftsman house on the SW corner of 3rd and Van Ness well. Thanks to tovanger2 and CityBoyDoug for elaborating!

been built in 1948. As for the house, it is 317 S Vermont.... Its story is here

Manchester Ct. is gone, it's now part of a school playground. Jack in The Box and the bldg adjacent with the "DEAF" signage in '65 survive....incredible how many retail businesses deserted the area following the riots:

As was noted, Julian Wasser was the photographer of this iconic shot. It's been reproduced repeatedly since it was taken in August 1965

"One day the bureau [AP] was visited by the legendary crime photographer Arthur Fellig, better known as Weegee, who was in Washington promoting a book. “He invited me to ride along with him in his car,” says Wasser. “He had an old Chevy, and he’d cruise around the city taking pictures. He was a fat dirty slob but he was very interesting, and as a spot news photographer he was the best.” The only advice he gave the young upstart was “find another profession”, but Wasser was hooked. “I would steal my father’s car and listen to my police radio, respond to the calls and shoot pictures that I would sell to The Washington Post. They paid only $25 a picture."

Note the roof line of the buildings on the west side of Broadway in each photograph. Thrifty's was at 8763 S. Broadway. There are two shotguns to be seen in the 1965 picture: with the eye of faith, the less threatening one seems to say 8700 S.

Huh. That's a Max Maltzman building from 1946. Maltzman also did the Ravenswood, the Wilshire Bowl & many others including 410 N Rossmore (sort of), if you remember that one.
