If you take NB Zone 1 (covid zone 1), approx 1/3 population of all NB, there are only 2 Walmarts. So how many WMs in all of NB, 7 or 8?
26 Supercenters total. 9 in NB, 12 in NS, 3 NL, 2 PEI. So 43 sounds reasonable.

They are starting to put up the structural steel for the new Brandt dealership building in the Caledonia Industrial Park. I noticed this while going over to see what was going on at the WalMart Distribution Centre construction site. They are starting to cut some trees along survey lines here. This is going to be a massive site!!!

I’m surprised there isn’t one in Oromocto, Quispamsis and Riverview.

I'd say the odds are 50/50 - up in Findlay Park.

The population of the town is now a solid 20,000 and Riverview is currently on a growth trajectory with hundreds of new apartment units planned or under construction. It is just inconvenient enough for Riverviewers to cross the river to go to the stores in Moncton and Dieppe that I think there would be popular will to get one built.

The fact that the new distribution centre is being built in Moncton might actually improve the odds of a new Riverview store - it would be very easy to supply........

The lovely people of the valley NIMBY'd when Wal-Mart considered a location there IIRC. Want to preserve their small town feel, you know?

Oromocto seems like a likely landing spot soon.

Oromocto sounds like it might be the best chance; but it feels a bit iffy. The Regent Mall Walmart is already very close, and the mall is a destination for the military, so the demand may not be as much as they might expect.

I have often if Shediac keeps growing if it would have a Walmart in 10 to 20 years.

There is the potential down the road for a Shediac WalMart too, yes.

After all, Canadian Tire has stores in Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview and Shediac.

And Kent has stores in Moncton West, Moncton East, Riverview and Shediac.

It would seem that WalMart is behind the times!

Assuming further growth in Oromocto, Waasis, Rusagonis etc. I don't think it's a far-fetched idea. Regent Mall isn't that close to Oromocto and requires a trek into Fredericton proper. The two Saint John Wal-Marts are closer in distance.

It seems too easy to add a Wal-Mart to the Miramichi Rd area east of Route 2.

I think that Shediac would be a good place for a Walmart eventually but I imagine that Superstore will need to open a location there first. They’re not really in expansion mode either. They opened a store last month in Halifax off of Larry Utech Blvd. but that was their first store openings in over a decade. Even then, a lot of the last round of expansions that they did was to replace stores that were previously old SuperValu or Save Easy locations.

Having a Sobeys is a good indicator of the strength of a retail market. A Canadian Tire is also very important for a market lately as well.

They could rebrand their No Frills location but that building is in poor shape and should be replaced. I thought there were some parcels for sale on Ohio Rd, across from Kent perhaps? I could be wrong

No Frills is Franchised out which becomes a problem then too. Ohio Road would be good, but also perhaps near Seaside Chev or even next to their No Frills location.

Property at 132 McLaughlin Dr. is up for sale. This was the property where they took the old fire station and turned it into apartments with the intent of building 2 larger buildings in behind it. There is a sign out front saying the property in behind the renovated station is for sale with a opportunity to build more apartments in the back.

I just heard old E&L Wine maker store at 459 Elmwood (that they have been renovating for months) now has a sign that says "Gaming Centre". Anyone know if this is for Gambling or more of a Crystal Mountain type place?
