For 645 madison. According to model @ chicago architecture the glass is red. I know its just a model but how badass would it be to have optima 2 color down the Ryan canyon.

That would be wonderful news if they can launch this project next year.......if that meh 625 W Adams can do it, I know Hines can make this much worthier project happen this cycle.....

1136 S Wabash

Crain's reported today that the developers (CA Ventures, Keith Giles) of this 26-storey, 320-unit South Loop apartment tower that just began construction have closed on their construction loan.....

By my count, the Ed Debevics tower may be topped out given the 22 story planned height.

9 W Walton (from last week)

Does not appear to be terra cotta, though it seems nicely finished.

The even color between pieces suggests it is precast.

From the Riverwalk - precast on left, limestone (weathered) on right:

Even the absolute best quality precast doesn't have the same kind of variation, although it has a subtle leathery variation that is beautiful in its own right...

30 Park Place (NY) - limestone on first 20', precast above

Saw some architects going over plans for a building on that empty lot in between Illinois and Hubbard streets as I was walking along the overpass. Obviously something was going to go there eventually but that might be coming soon!

Great news! Did you get a chance to see it long enough to get a sense for what it might look like?

Are you talking about the parking lot on Wabash north of the Trump Tower?

768 N. Aberdeen (new address 716-742 N. Aberdeen) is seeking 1.25 extra FAR so that it can be 12 stories and 188 units. Looks like this project counts as a high-rise now, which would make it the 3rd one going up near Chicago/Milwaukee station

That funky son-of-Spertus glass curtainwall on the Viceroy has now taken shape.

An article over a year ago had already cited this as a 12 story project, actually.

Definately precast. There is no way they would be cladding a building in continuous 10' long slabs of limestone with a big wide fluting running the length of the slab. That would be insanely expensive if not impossible.

That said, this is a really nice use of precast, I love how they are actually using it for what it is made for. They aren't trying to hide the fact that it is one continuous piece of material by adding lame "ye olde stone blocke" groves all over the surface of it. They instead are taking advantage of the nature of the material to get forms that aren't really possible with stone. There is tremendous depth to the small amount of facade that has already gone up and if this level of detail persists throughout the design, this is going to be a stunner. So refreshing to see someone actually use precast right for once. This might be pomo, but it's more in the original sense of the word than the horrendous LaGrangian neo-traditional schlock sense.

Agreed, quite a bit of detail indeed. It should all come together nicely.

Also, y'know, the dark bronze windowframes don't hurt.

I will never understand why LaGrange (and apparently RAMSA) insist on using white windows. White vinyl looks just as bad on a faux-Deco highrise as it does on a red-brick Queen Anne in Wicker Park.
