Was out of town for a few months and just got back. The progress on this one is astounding to see in person. It's a dominant building and so far it's one that even exceeds the renderings. Looks like they're a couple floors away from the amenity deck offset. This one already feels tall but after that we're looking at the largest section being constructed (17 floors), another offset of 7 floors and then the crown. It has about 300 ft to go. This one might actually dwarf the 360. It's design plays up because it's more slender.
For perspective, the spire on 360 is 101 feet higher than the roof of 360. The roof of The Independent will be 109 feet higher than 360's spire.
It should easily tower over 360 here.
And two from my neck of the woods in South Austin showing the crane. This is from the turn lane at South First Street and Turtle Creek Boulevard. It's going to be visible up and down South First. You can already see 360, the Frost Bank Tower, Colorado Tower and the Austonian along there.
I see this building going up from a western view almost every day when I go to Austin Pets Alive to volunteer. I finally figured out that the zig/zag nature of the design is not going to be very noticeable from either the eastern or western exposures. It will be a north or south viewing experience. I never gave it much thought, but I guess that kind of variation on all four sides would be a pretty complicated and expensive proposition.

Noticed on the webcam they are installing these steel trusses on the east side of the building. This is for the amenity floor cantilever that I always wondered about how they'd build the thing. I guess they'll suspend the formwork from the trusses to pour the floor then have a floor to do the rest off of. Interesting to me and I also noticed the trusses on the interior renderings on Independent's web page under 35th floor amenity level. Sorry no links or pics.
So with the windows, the rendering shows white metal trim that extends a few inches out and rides down the whole building (there's a more technical term for these dividers... something that starts with "G") but right now the windows are more seamless. I kind of like it how it looks now and it seems like if they were going to add the trim, it would be appearing already. Thoughts?

Thanks Keith. With cantilevers it usually has to support it 2.5 times back into the building. So a 20' cant would need to go 50' back into the building... I'm not an engineer though

For reference, the top of the slab of the 34th floor of The Independent is at 361 feet 6 inches. The 35 floor will be 16 feet tall - 377 feet 6 inches.

Just out of curiosity, does any noise emanate from there? A constant hum or crackle?
