Life sciences unicorn set to open 'forever lab' in Austin

1,000 employees already in line for planned business park with room for plenty more

Two more California companies are bullish on Austin, bringing the area big buildings and jobs in the thousands. A six-building campus to house life sciences companies is planned for Northeast Austin, a project that's expected to provide a major boost to the burgeoning business sector — and it's already filling up. This article looks at one of the biggest economic wins this city has seen this year.

Nice. We could use some good news. It also looks like another floor of the Republic Tower was leased. There were two TDLR filings this week for finish outs to two floors (32 & 33) for two different law firms. The one on floor 33 was previously announced.

Came across a strange article about Samsung removing personnel out of the Taylor plant due to some sort of production issue. But correct me if I'm wrong, the plant isn't complete... I attempted to post the link here however It didn't load properly when I clicked on the link so I removed it. The article just popped up on my news feed.

Coincidentally, local news outlets reported that S. Korean leaders were visiting the Austin area this week.

I don't understand the Samsung plant news at all. It's not even complete yet. I guess some tests didn't go well or something? So confusing.

X (Twitter) has now officially listed Bastrop, TX (Greater Austin) as the location of its new headquarters, officially leaving San Francisco:

In related news, SpaceX officially moved its headquarters to Starbase, TX (Boca Chica Village) in the RGV back in August. Officially moving its headquarters from Los Angeles to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas:

With all this growth in Bastrop. They will need to make Hwy 71 a freeway all the way to and maybe past Bastrop. Thats a 1/3 of the way to IH10. Maybe this will be Austin's chance for another interstate?

From a political standpoint:

Hays County has an inept government, Travis County has a liberal government, Williamson County is too risky for a conservative long-term, and Caldwell too backwater, then Bastrop makes sense. It is the closest satellite city to the Tesla facilities which is likely convenient for Musk and is likely to remain firmly in conservative control at the county and city governments for a LONG time.

Yeah, I was discussing this move with a co-worker last night. Moving from the Bay Area in the middle of everything to....a metal building off a country road in Bastrop, Texas. Things are moving up there.

All jokes aside, yes, they'll need to build up infrastructure along 71. We've discussed in the Transportation thread the growth along the 71 corridor and planned controlled-access facilities from Austin all the way to I-10. Whether it would be upgraded to an interstate is debatable, but folks have floated it previously.

I-14 is already in the works, and while it doesn't go through Austin (or Bastrop), it will benefit the region.

Yeah it would be a shame if there were actual deterrents and consequences for crimes in Travis Co.

Well...you get what you vote for. It sucks. But, it's up to the citizens of Travis County to make a change. Yet, they do not.
