Alsop's work is usually too agressive for me. I would be able to stomach it more if he toned down his colors.

I actually really like the smaller tower, providing he dropped the tutu.

This building won him Britain most distinguished architectural award in 2000, the Stirling Prize...

Peckham Library, London

I dunno but something tells me that this one in Yonkers won't get him the Pritzker

I actually don't mind many of the other examples people are showing of his work. And I actually think this design is pretty bad ass
[/QUOTE]

But this Yonkers design is shite. It looks like it'll be dated before it even completes construction. But who knows.... it might make for a nice kitsch landmark.... for someone...

This isn't a flop. It's like he's a fish that intentionally jumped out of a stream to fall down a steep bank to where there is no way to get back to the water. This building is the ANTICHRIST!!! lol jk.

But this project seriously has issues...

This thread must be dead, like this proposal, hopefully, is. I know the old New York Central power plant has seen better days, but to say that this thing, whatever the hell it is, is an architectural menace to the plant, doesn't even touch, let alone, scratch the surface. This proposal is #@%&ed the #@%& up!!!!

(sorry about my mouth)

Can't more people think up better ways of re-using old buildings? It's run-down, yes, but there is still beauty and character in it.

The actual tower isn't that offensive... actually kinda cool. It's just everything else that sucks.

Just came across this Paul Goldberger article in The New Yorker:

THE COLORIST
The playful world of Will Alsop.
by Paul Goldberger
OCTOBER 22, 2007

.....Alsop has yet to build anything in the United States, but a few months ago he unveiled what could be his most striking design so far, a two-hundred-and-fifty-million-dollar mixed-use complex for a waterfront site in Yonkers. A developer wants to convert an abandoned power plant of the New York Central Railroad, an enormous, industrial castle dating from a century ago, a time when monumentality was routinely conferred upon even the most mundane civic structures.....
