That revision looks excellent. Bravo Victoria!

That’s sad to hear. Maybe since it was rezoned at that height for an office tower a tall condo building could get built there. I’m not sure how that works though and it’s a pretty small lot too.

You just said those buildings were "old, featureless block". We, including your dear mom, disagree with you. That we understand very well.

There are outer areas now that are going taller and becoming more modern. I think that would suffice for Victoria: anything of heritage value in Old Town should be preserved.

They destroyed Douglas Street by tearing those old buildings down. It’s really sad to see those old pictures.

This thread has died off. I have something to share but I have been told that I am not allowed to. The Hudson tower is going up quickly. I wish that I could post photos on here. I forget how and I forget my Flickr password.

You could register for vibrantvictoria.ca and then upload pics there by using the full editor when you make a post.

I don’t know why Chard’s buildings are taking so long to go up. So slow. I really like the rendering of that Quadra Street project thanks for sharing. I prefer this website. I will attempt to open a new Flickr account. I am always seeing good views for photos while driving or around town that would make awesome photos. Maybe in the fall or winter I will buy a new camera. Anyways thanks for the photos.

I believe they're saying end of this week?

You can see HP1 at the far right side of the RBCM's webcam...

I drove by there yesterday and saw signs and window dressings. When I saw it I wondered if it was already open. I hope it does well. Lots of new residents around there now and more to come.

Victoria is such a nice city. Its too bad it's so bloody expensive, otherwise it would be a city I would conisder to winter in for retirement. Just another BC (bring cash) city out of reach for most.

Yup I agree, Wife and I were looking at places to move to when we are in Victoria. We get there at least twice a year and even like the winters. But the we look at housing prices and living expenses. we should have bought years ago when we first though about it.

Have friends that live there now, they stayed after university. Some are planning on move back here now. sell their place on the island and they can buy here and pocket a sizable surplus amount of cash.

Bring cash:

House-hunting in Vancouver? Bring lots of cash -- and a tent

Globe and Mail
April 5, 1980

Listen first to Jim Patterson, British Columbia's embattled rentalsman. ''If you're coming out on spec, you should have lots of money -- and a tent."

...finding a job can be tough enough, without the double-whammy of a seemingly insane housing market...

In Vancouver, one of the tightest housing markets in North America, the vacancy rate is .2 per cent. In Victoria, it is .1 per cent, and in some suburban areas it is a flat zero.

That first photo is awesome. Probably taken from a drone. I agree with house prices here. I currently rent but hope to one day own. The bubble may burst one day. Who knows.

Ten million dollars is crazy. I think that is what the penthouse condo in the custom’s house sold for last year. Insane.
