It's moving....Can't wait for the overhead extension of the facility to span York Ave. The exterior/roofing is moving at a great pace as well.

As Roc said, the combination of both new and old make it quite the imposing structure.

"HUGE"..

Me too! It's a good looking building!

I really hope that these recent downtown projects that are opening in the next year and a half or so will change people's minds about how nice a downtown area can be. More importantly I hope that people will start to demand a better vision for Winnipeg in the next 5-10 years because the city doesn't make it clear whether or not they want to continue sprawling or densifying.

Is there a large truss spanning York Ave now?! Or am I seeing things as the cranes are in the middle of a lift?

^ Thanks for posting. By Winnipeg standards, that project is just blasting along.

I was down there today. It sure looks good. They were unloading some very large roof trusses off flatbeds. I figure they may be part of the upcoming bridging structure over York.

In terms of impact, I think this project is underrated. I know that it won't likely engage the street particularly well. However, York is my least favourite downtown street and this will help give some significant visual pop to that stretch of it.

Or, perhaps it is just that I get giddy watching surface lots disappear.

Just came back to work tonight from two weeks holidays and see that the old hotel lot on Carlton has finally been filled in and leveled.

How long until Center Venture asks for a tempoary zoning varience to make it a parking lot while waiting for the new hotel or what ever they end up getting to locate there to sort itself out?

They will have to try and get some of the money they outlaid there somehow.

There are two steel beams across York between the new and old buildings now!

I was wondering about this myself.

Has there been any update on the hotel? Or is this going to be another Winnipeg "phase 2" that sits there aimlessly for the next quarter of a century?

Aug.25th.

As mentioned earlier, harder to see from this angle, although the extension over York seems to be progressing at a good pace.

Thanks for taking these photos. Haven't had much of a chance to get down there and actually see the progress from the ground up. Something that's unique to the city, spanning a downtown street with usable space, rather than just another sky walk. I like how it's moving along.

I know I'm venturing off topic here, but that first pic reminds me that it would be great if the remand centre, which is by all accounts bursting at the seams, could be replaced with something bigger and newer as they did in Edmonton:

http://www.solgps.alberta.ca/program...nd_centre.aspx

It would be nice if the existing remand centre could then be repurposed in a way that adds a little more activity to the area.
