^^^ Wow, the 1909 photo in that article is really sad, what was lost of what was once a really cool dense neighborhood.

It's honestly hard for me to look at pictures of Chicago pre-expressway.

I believe they are charging on avg $1.5MM too. I haven't been a fan of this project since day one but I agree...the finished result is 10x's worse than an already weak rendering.

Good thing it's at least fairly hidden in terms of West Loop projects.

there has been exposed insulation material on the sides of it for a year. Probably needs to be torn out at this point. Maybe they ran out of $$

The best metal panel system I've seen in the city is that new 5 floor building on the South Side of North Ave almost all the way out to humboldt Park. It's got yellow and black and silver. It's actually really catchy and funky looking. Very similar to the other 5 story yellow and black metal panel building on Milwaukee Ave just South of the CVS at Chicago.

Yeah, it's ok. The paneled building above the Verizon store at Milwaukee/Ashland, however, is a crime.

Looks like Cedar Street Companies recently bought the Bridgeview Bank Building in Uptown. I can't imagine them doing anything with the property anytime soon considering the fact that the current office tenants probably have a few years left on their leases. Plus there's the fact that a lot of the tenants are neighborhood nonprofits according to the article, so I imagine they'd want to avoid negative publicity by converting the place to micro-apartments as soon as they're out.

I noticed this morning that 454 W Barry has been demolished. I can't seem to find any information about it though. Anyone know anything? Another early 1900s mansion bites the dust.

The 454 W Barry Project is in Lakeview, so the increase in density is quite marginal unfortunately.

^^ 454 W. Barry is Lakeview, not Uptown. The house itself was no great shakes, but this looks like a turd.

Any increase in density is good to offset the deconversions. Plus the new building is pretty handsome and puts parking underground with more landscaped space. The old house had a weird zone in front where you basically had to walk across their driveway.

Thanks @MultiModal. I actually think it's nice looking (well, as long as it's real brick).

NIMBYism takes a dramatic turn:

Ald. Walter Burnett Storms Out Of Meeting With West Loop Residents After Getting Asked About Developer Donations

“I try to respect folks, but I’m not going to stand there and be disrespected because they feel entitled to a view," the alderman told Block Club Chicago.
