That promised groundbreaking has been imminent for over a month already. But I noticed that three permits related to underground utilities were filed in the past week or so. Utility issues seem to be the hold up over the past several months.

They are definitely doing something at that corner. Trying to think of how long that it's been since they closed that area of road and dug down. It seems like it's been over a year but I don't know.

Walked past today. The utility work is still ongoing. There were workers onsite today doing some jackhammering with their backhoe. No change to the building itself.

Finally. A right of way closure permit for demo was filed today. The dates haven't been added to it yet, but they will be shortly. We will then know when it's starting.

I walked by the site yesterday, and saw a couple people inside in hard hats. It looks like they might have been doing some pre-demo prep (maybe taking out the last few things from inside, etc.).

Here's another new permit confirming that demo and construction will begin on 02/03. The barricades will go up on 02/03. Actual demo may start a day or two later based on how these things go.

Does the Congress Ave CVC require that buildings have a setback from the sidewalk at a certain height? Could this building theoretically rise straight up from the entrance, and have no podium?

About damn fucking time...

I've waited for nearly 5 years for this building to start construction. It's one of the only ones I care for.

Jeeeeeez, the wait has been agonizing. This vs. Opus Place in ATL have to be two of the more frustrating towers under development that I've paid any attention to. Always setting the timeline further and further back....

The Avenue has no podium at all. That's what makes it a bonafide first class development for Austin, it's 100% urban and will only go to enhance the urban fabric of the city.

That's the reason I've been waiting anxiously for this one. The developer building this is one of the very few that sees car-less potential in the ATX. That's a big deal to me because it indicates the quality of the build rather than quantity. This developer respects Austin and as far as I'm concerned that respect is mutual so long as they actually start construction and build the thing already...

The site is still scheduled to be closed off for Demo tomorrow. So an official "building-breaking" with golden sledge hammers could happen any time this week!

Yup, saw it yesterday over my lunch hour. Windows boarded, dumpsters off to the side, and lots of movement inside. I figure they're starting with internal fixtures and will start knocking down walls in a day or so.
