Mayor Greg Dionne will not be attending the mayors' caucus at this year’s Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention in Saskatoon next week.

Prince Albert’s mayor made this announcement during his third State of the City address on Thursday, and in the midst of it, took a jab at Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison, criticizing his weight, as he took a swipe at the Bridge City’s push for its new commuter bridges.

“You got nine other bridges, you can wait a couple more years, you whined about these ones for the last couple, that’s why the river level came up. But you know, you can walk a little and maybe the mayor there will lose some weight, if he didn’t have to walk out of his office. That’s why he’s heavier than me, because he walks out of his office 10 feet and he’s on a bridge,” Dionne said, drawing laughter and collective groans from the audience of about 350 in the Ches Leach Lounge

Ya, well, in the past, Atch has taken rhetorical/petty-minded shots at Regina; and this week, he publicly stated an unwarranted shot at Winnipeg.

What an @$$hole. Saskatoon deserves better.

Diesel prices hasn't fallen off enough to lower the costs of construction, there will be some losses from the gas tax for sure.

Ya, no kidding; however, gasoline is starting to creep back up though. (Even though oil is still $45ish.)

The farmyard at the SE corner of Pinky and TCH has been demolished as well as all the trees and other items. It is now a clean slate to start construction the large slip ramps for the new interchange.

I am curious to see if they will be single lane or two lane high speed ramps...?

I'll tell you in May when the project is awarded and we can actually talk openly about it again. There was another year added to the length of the project.

Sooo much aggregate used in this project, it really is amazing.

That is roughly 1/6th the total for the project. Plus whatever the feds chip in this year.

Yeah, $211m won't get anything built but it will clear the path for them.

I suspect they will get started on the eastern interchanges at White City and Balgonie, as those are roughly $35M a piece, as well as start on the section of the west bypass north of Dewdney. As those two sections are to be completed early, maybe not 2017 but 2018.

The whole thing needs to (and will get built) but the East interchanges are a HIGH priority (Politically good move) as well as the west bypass for the GTH trucks.

The $211M should pay to move a bunch of dirt to get the ramps in place so they can sit and settle (whatever the geo tech term is?) the proper amount before any hard structures actually get built.

Yes it does, but at least it's a start.

The structure could go up for the Northbound bridge at the West Bypass and TCH as the dirt has been settling there for three years.

The dirt needs to sit for the paving to be completed, that rest period does not delay the actual bridge/overpass building, except to get to proper heights where the Pile and the abutment (pile cap) for the bridge crossing structure to rest on. Those sit on 60 ft deep/tall piles for example.

The province wants the City of Regina to pay 23.3 million or 35.4% of the cost of the 9th Ave North and Hill Ave interchanges on the West bypass. They also want the RM of Sherwood to pay for 14.8% of the cost.

I knew that the 9th Ave interchange was planned. However I always had hoped that Hill Ave would be an interchange at the start, last time I looked it was just a right turn only access. It would be a good idea to get all grade separations done right on the West side between Highway 1 and 11 this would included a service interchange at Armour Road as well.
