Anybody else notice the crane for the hotel next to the Fox has decoratively colored lighting? I’ve seen this in other cities and was wondering if we’d ever see it here.

SCAD tower

Really nice surprise. Love the added density in that area...

Cool, was going to ask what they are doing with that land since I saw it tonight and the old dorm is gone and it's quite a big lot.

Midtown Atlanta
@MidtownATL
Today we celebrated the groundbreaking of Winship at Midtown, a state-of-the-art cancer care center aligned with research and education. The 17-story tower is a unique partnership between Emory University and Emory Healthcare. A great day for #MidtownATL!

The Mark finally starting to peak out in the skyline while coming down the connector. I'm assuming it'll be about the same height as Aqua? Maybe taller?

Mark should be taller at 29 floors.

Has anyone seen a rendering? I recall Tim Keane being quoted as saying it was the best looking high rise he has seen planned for the city this cycle, but nothing has ever popped up. Since this is a block and a half from my condo I am hoping it is going to look better than the Margaritaville tower going up a few blocks over.

That's awesome^^^^^^

On another topic:

Hanover Midtown getting an urban Dollar General. I guess they're trying to compete with the gasless QT. I wish them the best of luck and will probably stop in there every once in a while.

Hanover Midtown, a 29-story mixed-use project at 881 Peachtree St NE from developers Hanover Co. and Atlanta-based The Loudermilk Company, could be getting a Dollar General, or perhaps the company’s new DGX store.
Permits have been filed with the City of Atlanta seeking approvals to begin an interior finish for the discount retailer in Hanover Midtown.

Details are still being hashed out and the lease hasn’t been signed yet, a representative at The Loudermilk Company shared with What Now Atlanta over the phone.

At an estimated 4,191 square feet, and a construction price tag of $800,000, the soon-to-come Dollar General in the highly-dense Midtown-area has the initial specs of the chain’s new, smaller-sized DGX store format.

Dollar General Corp. first rolled the compact concept in 2017, following findings from the market researcher NPD Group, which tracks consumer receipts, that a quarter of the chain’s sales come from millennials earning more than $100,000 annually.

Seeking to further penetrate this demographic (loosely bracketed by the years between 1980 and 2000), the company unleashed a concept specifically designed for growth in dense, intown markets, a pivot from its staple rural and suburban markets and in-town food deserts.

The DGX store format provides shoppers with a focused selection of consumable items and immediate consumption options in a compact format, scaled down to roughly one-half the size of a traditional Dollar General (roughly between 7,300-9,000 square feet).

Now in its leasing phase, Hanover Midtown includes 350 apartment units, 11,000 square feet of retail and more than 35,000 square feet on floors two through four of the office part of the project has been set aside for co-working giant WeWork.

Dollar General currently operates more than 15,836 stores in 44 states as of August 2019.

Good functional add, Midtown needs more concepts like this.

Mammoth Midtown Union project breaks ground, signs boutique hotel partner.

Expect Arts Center Way to expand in a pedestrian-friendly way, too, developers say.

Having an over-sized landscape median down the center of your street hardly makes it more pedestrian friendly.. Pedestrians would be better served by moving that space to the sidewalks where street facing retail can spill out comfortably helping to activate and enliven the ground floor.

It looks like its Avalon urban. Didn't you know that Avalon set a new standard of "urnbanism" in the suburbs/s.

Thanks! Midtown Union will be a great project (and I wish somehow Mammoth Midtown would stick and rename the site!). Atlanta’s been on a hot streak, however many including myself have been a bit spoiled lately and hoping to see some taller and more unique designs. It’s refreshing when someone swings by the forums and pays forward a compliment. Helps remind me that we have some nice progress going on here, despite yearning for more.

That said, hopefully Q1-Q2 2020 we see a handful of projects break ground and maybe we get a few new (and unique) proposals
