Looks awfully a lot like 390 Assiniboine...just shorter with a splash of color with the red.

390 Assiniboine is the former D Condo... doesn't look anything like that. And if you're referring to 300 Ass. – I also don't think it remotely resembles it other than the beige. 300 has tons of balconies, and the east side is almost entirely glass. Plus, they actually built townhouses on the podium, as opposed to the city allowing them to back out of it at a TOD site...

The original rendering had balconies in the middle portion those are now gone it looked better originally with the townhouse but still pretty awful we don’t need more 300 Assiniboines, more 390 please.

Yes, definitely a similar vibe going by the renderings.

The Spot at East Village is sure to leave a lasting first impression with an impressive 20 stories of solid concrete construction and stunningly unobstructed views of Downtown Winnipeg and over the Red River. Peacefully overlook the hustle and bustle going on down below, just steps away.

The inside is just as nice as the outside with stainless steel appliances, kitchen islands, insuite laundry and floor to ceiling windows. There are studio, 1 and 2 bedroom suite layouts all more impressive than the last. The experience starts right when you drive into your 5 level, enclosed parking structure, walk through the glass lobby with soaring ceiling heights, grab a drink at the onsite coffee and spirits shack and hop in the elevator. Once you open your door you’ll be greeted by tons of natural light pouring through the floor to ceiling glass windows. Nothing better than a great view on a sunny day!

Conveniently located at 221 Stradbrook, steps from the Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor you can travel far and wide in Winnipeg within minutes. Direct buses pass by frequently to downtown and the University of Manitoba. Prefer a more active lifestyle? Ride your bike right into downtown over the Donald Street bridge and enjoy your free secure bike storage available at The Spot.

The Spot at East Village is the 3rd ‘Spot’ branded building found in Winnipeg and is among good company. The Spot apartments are recognized for being modern, amenity rich rental communities which inspire Residents to live a well balanced lifestyle. With construction currently underway this project is scheduled for completion in 2020.

Maybe the renderings don't do it justice. Right now it looks like some '70s throwback.

It isn't the greatest looking building (this is starting to sound like a familiar refrain with Osborne Village projects) but hey, it fills a lot and brings more people into the area. And to the question of 'who would want to live there', well, I'm sure a good many people would opt for a new tower over the more common 50s walk-up in a heartbeat, especially now that those 50s walk-ups are getting pretty long in the tooth.

The placement of the parkade sucks, though. It's too prominent.

I don't like the building and I definitely despise the parking garage. But like esquire said, it fills an empty lot. We can't possibly have all new towers to be glass or Dcondo-esque (which I love). I'm supposing that eventually we'll have a good number of shining towers to blend in with the older drab ones, giving our downtown a good mix. Variety is the proverbial spice of life, my friends. BTW, 300 Assiniboine has at least one side that looks mostly glass, but yes they do look similar.

It looks like a normal apartment building to me. Just like 300 Assiniboine. Not everything will be shiny glass towers reaching to the stars.

Definitely great to have that lot filled with people. The removal of the CRU units is disappointing though.

IIRC they were townhouses and not CRUs.
