Manitoba Transit (Brandon, Selkirk, Thompson, etc) and Transit Ideas!

Hey guys,

I think we should have a Manitoba Transit thread. To start it off, heres a map I created for a possible future transit system in Portage La Prairie:

http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?msid=2...19933,0.338173

NOTE: I dont trust the estimated time of the routes, so it might not be exact. Also, I had alot of issues with Google Maps, but I finally got the damn thing to work!

Route 1 - Covers south Portage la Prairie, along with 5th St and the TransCanada

Route 2 - Covers Fisher Ave, and Western retail (Sissons)

Route 3 - Covers part of Crescent Road, Tupper St, NE Portage la Prairie and a few industrial buildings

Route 4 - Covers NW Portage la Prairie, Tupper St and Island Park

Route 5 - Covers River Road and Southport

Major Transfer Points

Saskatchewan Ave @ 13th Street (Routes 2 and 3)

Tupper St @ Saskatchewan Avenue (Room in between CIBC and store for a small plaza and a few bus shelters, Routes 1, 3, 4, 5)

Royal Road @ Crescent Road (Routes 4 and 5)

Tupper St @ Fisher Avenue (Routes 2, 3 and 4)

Tupper St @ 5 Avenue (Routes 3 and 4)

Crescent Rd E @ River Rd (Routes 1 and 5)

I'll work out some render on Google SketchUp for the "Transit Square" in a bit. Not bad, eh?

Not quite Manitoba (should be, though), but I made this for Thunder Bay and it was actually forwarded to the consultants who are currently designing our new transit system:

Nothing like reading someone you made a week later and realizing you made a spelling mistake....

Get Inkscape and start practicing.

That map is just a modification of another project I've been working on for a couple years.

How possible is it to have regional transit service from Winnipeg to Portage La Prairie/Steinbach?

I know, but on the other hand, Portage La Prairie is 21,000 people and Steinbach is growing rapidly apparently. Seems like a good market for regional transit!

Although on the other hand, Portage is 45 mins away. Steinbach is an hour and a bit if I remember right, and has the fun honor of trying to get to Downtown during peak hours! A Portage service can just zoom down Portage (that or stop at Unicity and let the 22/25 take care of the rest)

CMA wise, that is pretty much what it is. The city itself is about 13 or 14K.

Yeah, the CA might be that...I don't think cities that small have CMAs though.
