Maybe we'll have to vote on a Federal party that would mandate transit orientated development...like the Green Party. Who knows, I have very little faith on the other parties.

I'm not sure that any federal party can mandate TOD, as land-use is under municipal jurisdiction. A national transit strategy would be great, but TOD is another beast altogether...

Your right Bdog, but the funds would be available for such infrastructure initiatives. For example the Take Action Plan that the Harper Government initiated. It would be nice to have leaders who lead instead of follow (lobbists).

It's ironic I say that when I was in Ottawa lobbying my MPs on the CPP, economic sector developments and expanded Pharma care. It was an eye opening experience to say the least. But that experience made me see that Big money is spent by Big Corporations and Associations to influence government decisions. And often times it's at the expense of the average citizen. SAD I say. Many dont care to really look at the true issues that affect them and the decisions being made.

BTW Ottawa's $600 million LRT expansion looks amazing, too bad Winnipeg's paltry federal contribution is but a shadow of what it should be.

Isn't the fort rouge rail yards project a TOD? I believe it's still a go ahead.

I wish the neighborhood weren't so pissy about the height of the towers. They should make it 35 floors and cram in another 500ish people

Maybe one of those pissy people will give me a good deal on their house when I'm ready to buy there in a couple of months.

The feds could at least mandate federal land use that contributes to TOD and deliberately avoids suburban sprawl.

Unfortunately, we're getting exactly that with the current crew.

Does anyone have idea where this project is at?

http://fortrougeyards.com/

I searched the forum and was unable to find anything recent. According to the website the first part of the development was supposed to start this summer.

The latest I've heard: "They hope to begin servicing the railway-yard site in fall, he said, which could take up to a year. They hope to start construction next spring."

http://www.emortgagenews.info/more-units-go-condo/

Ofcourse it's B&M land so I wouldn't get my hopes up. They've had a building with only the wood frame exposed for 3 years on the McPhillips commons apartment project. A really nasty eyesore on McPhillips. They've now decided to switch those to condo's and it looks like they have started building again (hopefully they finish that building soon). They were also in charge of the residence on york apartments which were extremely delayed as well. My fiance worked at the lobby on york and lived in one of their buildings. At one point she was ordered to pay her rent directy to the residents tenat board cause B&M had failed to pay hydro on their buildings. An extremely disorganized company.
