Long Beach, California - Mile high building

Back in the late '70's, there was an article in the Press Telegram about plans to build a mile high skyscraper next to the Queen Mary.

Does anyone know anything about this? I tried searching on Google but couldn't find anything about this.

Who was going to build it? Why was it cancelled?

Why what is cancelled????

Was probably just an attention grabbing proposal from some architect to begin with.

If I remember correctly, the article in the Press Telegram was announcing a project that was to be built in the following year. But it's been a long time, so I might not be remembering all the details....

I just don't see much of a need for a building like this next to the Queen Mary....

I don't think there is much of a need for a mile high building anywhere.

If there were it would be some place other than next to the Queen Mary.

The article was in the Press Telegram around 1979, maybe 1980. Does anyone else remember reading about it?
