I will definately send an email and I hope I can use your comparison to a Tim Hortons.
I can't take credit for the Tim Horton's line, I believe that originally came from Signal when we first saw it.

Anyway, anyone who wants to take anything from there feel free. Pull it apart and take what you will as your own. Good luck chaps.

Yeah, we definitely need to voice our concerns over the current proposal. I'm in complete agreement with Copes - we need companies like Manga to establish themselves in St. John's. They will bring much needed development to the city, but not this proposal. We're not talking about the Ritz-Carlton here so I don't expect a grandiose design, but something a bit better than this. For this type of development, I honestly thought the first design was fine.

I won't be able to make the meeting but I'll certainly voice my concern to council.

I don't think it was me. And, if it was, sign me up for the Waterford because I read Copes' description of it and LOL'd like it was my first time seeing it,

I was told by the developer that the design is only prelimenary and far from final. The purpose of this design is to get the land rezoned for the hotel. They also assured me that the final design will use materials that do not, in any way, look like a blank wall (I assume more glass)

So I'm going to assume that the developer did not lie to me and the design will be changed for the better somewhat, so at this stage of the proposal which is rezoning the land for highrise development, I am fully supportive, as all of you would be (I assume)

O.K. - I've decided Copes is right. I should try to attend, and at least send my comments, to say I support the re-zoning and hope the faux heritage requirements aren't applied in our new DTWE CBD.

And here's the CBC video!

They only interviewed Signal and the architect!

I'm so happy for you guys! The first run of the Steel-Toed Boot Squad was a major sucess! Just goes to show that a few people really can make a huge difference. I wish CBC had picked a better title than "lukewarm" though.. Looking forward to watching the interview video too, but I can't right now because i'm on my phone.

Just wondering, is there any kind of timeline set for the hotel yet, like when is the land rezoning being voted on and when (not if) that gets approved, when will the hotel be approved to begin construction? Basically what I'm wondering is if it will begin construction this spring/summer or will it be delayed until next year?

Hey at least it was better than the usual "Downtown Residents Oppose....."

I suppose it's a start! But, I think CBC could have had a story that got alot more attention by making a more intruiging title emphasizing that most people at the meeting were FOR the hotel. But, as copes said in the CBC comments, lukewarm is much better than frigid!

Speaking of CBC comments, Walter Harding's comment about the stupid pipes is the lowest rated comment on the article and I had to laugh at the guy who took Signal's east-west directions literally. He thought you meant compass east and west so you were saying protect the harbour and the southside hills, and develop the rest of the city. I got a good laugh out of that one

Lowest rated comment on there is now some idiotic ramblings by a P F Murphy. I just posted what I consider to be a fantastic retort, and I seriously hope he takes the time to read it. I also hope the CBC mods allow it to be posted... they've been denying me a lot lately.

EDIT: Oh wait, I'm wrong, Harding's is lower. I'd give him 10 upvotes before that P F Murphy guy.

Any way to view what was on the news tonight? I'd be interested in how NTV framed the story.
