I took a LOT of pictures last week out at the track...so many that it took forever to go through them. Got rid of most and there are still 85 left. Hope you see something you like...

Investors see opportunity in land near racetrack

By John Maher

Updated: 10:33 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012
Published: 10:27 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012

From the front of his recently acquired five-acre tract on FM 812, Shravan Parsi said he can see much of the Circuit of the Americas track, which will host its first Formula One race in November.

But it's more than the view that Parsi likes.

"Everyone has to pass by this property to get to COTA," said Parsi, who's an entrepreneur.

He's undecided about what to do with the property, which was listed for $225,000. A hotel might be a possibility, but Parsi said, "I want to have something with an Austin flavor."

Economic activity around the $300 million track in southeastern Travis County has been slow, but it is showing signs of picking up. In the past few months, about 335 acres near the track have changed hands, and construction on area roads is plowing ahead.

Much of that is from COTA buying more land.

Cool video but they should have used a different color than yellow in the subtitles. Some of it was difficult to read.

COTA wants neighbor to pay $23,000 for moving his water line.

http://www.kvue.com/news/Elroy-resid...170277756.html

Criminal trespass? WTF? Reminds me of something I heard the other day from another landowner. He went out and found some COTA construction trucks on his property. As he pulled up & stopped the guys came over & demanded to know what he was doing "trespassing"on COTA property. He calmly explained that they were on his land, not the reverse. They didn't say a word, got in their trucks, and left. I'm certain his reaction was much more restrained than mine would have been.

Apparently COTA moved Haywood's line without contacting him about it, then billed him for it. I'll admit ignorance here, but isn't $23000 quite a bit to move ~150 of water line?

Quote:
AUSTIN – A dispute over a water line in Elroy has ignited between a homeowner and Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the company building the Formula 1 track there.

Haywood said his property already had a water line installed by its previous owners back in 1978 upon his arrival to the property in 1996.

The problem is the land over his water line was purchased by Circuit of the Americas who is building the F1 track.

Haywood said his attorney received a letter on Friday saying COTA spent $23,000 to move his water line and is accusing him of criminal trespass because of his line.

“I'm trying to find out why they're doing it. Are they doing it just because they can get away with it, because I might be in their way? I don't know. I don't know,” Haywood said.

Julie Loignon, a spokesperson for COTA, sent KVUE News an e-mail Tuesday after talking to an attorney. The e-mail said in part that Haywood illegally buried the waterline on COTA property. COTA said one of its contractors came across the line which was not built to code and had to be moved. Instead of cutting it, COTA said it relocated the waterline at a cost of approximately $23,000.

“I can't fight Formula 1 dollar for dollar. Don't even think about it. So I'm just going to live my life the best I can and hope that one day we'll be able to get along,” Haywood said.

OK, I know it's just a video game. Who knows how it will play out in real life, but here are some impressions I have after "driving" COTA for about 2 hours tonight on the xbox:

- The esses are very tough at first but I'm starting to get the rhythm. Very unforgiving.
- T1 is a bitch because of the way it flattens out at the top.
- In race conditions , cars tend to really bunch up at 3 & 4.
- T11 not too bad once u get the feel...but its VERY unforgiving if you're just a tad off. Same in some other places.
- I regularly overtook in 1, 9, 11, 12, 20. Even some in 13 & 14. Who knows if it will be like that in real life, but at the very least there will be lots of overtaking as people make mistakes.
- 15-18 = awesome.
- Hard to see apex or beyond it on 19 in the game.
- IMHO, there will be intense action all the way around this circuit in the early laps.

IIRC, I mentioned a while back how low the RV pads looked compared to the track.

Looks like they're gone now. This photo is from 9/23:

Here's what they looked like before:

That is a great one! Like 97% of these COTA pictures I see all just have the track. Not enough get Downtown in them.
