Just briefly rode down 16th street, I believe I counted at least 12 cranes in a pretty compact area in West Midtown, amazing.

I keep going back and forth on it. I do like the sidewalk between spring and West Peachtree. I wish the eastern facade of the eastern tower wasn’t flat. The eastern facade of the western tower looks interesting. So does the southern facade of the eastern tower.

Easily one of my favorite residential projects in Midtown. I love the way the massing is broken up when viewing from different angles.

Nice!

I think they have done a rather decent job of hiding the parking – as best as they can, given the density.
I really like the recessed balconies in the dark-colored tower. I also like the way the other lighter-colored tower has the “stacked shoe-box” look, but I wish there was a little more surface treatment on the broad sides of the building. I would love it if the used a natural or synthetic stone on the surface, but it may end up being some type of stucco treatment since it’s student housing.

It's definitely giving me MVRDV vibes. I'd love to see one of their projects in Atlanta.

July 2019 DRC Recap:

DRC Response
The DRC recommended:
  • the addition of a continuous sidewalk.
  • accommodations for ride-share passenger drop-off/short term parking.
  • adequate screening of the parking garage to mitigate the negative impact on adjacent neighbors, such as residents in the Hanover building.

The design of the towers is still in process and the committee requested more specificity about exterior building materials and details related to the balconies and window openings. While no variations were requested, the committee withheld full support until additional information is provided by the applicant via electronic submittal.

Portman to invest $80 million in Beltline hotel, seeks tax abatement for project

There's not much new in the story except that the hotel is 7 stories and Portman is seeking $3.5 million in tax breaks. They plan to break ground late this year or in early 2020.

That would be GREAT! Has there been any word on how this coordinates with the planned BRT route.

Amazing! This is what has been missing in the city. Honestly all the 4 and 5 lane 1-way streets should be transformed into this. Reminds me of Barcelona streets. I’d rather see Baker Street converted into this instead of spending over $2 million to make it 2-way.

I've heard (unofficially) that the BRT route would be on a different street instead, probably Spring / W.Peachtree or even Williams. I think it's still up in the air as the city, Midtown Alliance, MARTA, and potentially GDOT try to figure it out. But for now Midtown Alliance is moving ahead with Juniper assuming it will NOT have a BRT lane.

Piedmont *fingers crossed*, but then we may run into the same issue.

Piedmont makes more sense! It’s a straight shot from GSU stadium to Piedmont Park running through the state offices, Marta station, Grady, eastern edge of GSU classrooms, residence halls and then all the residential up to Piedmont Park and should loop over to Midtown station or even up to Arts Center connecting Colony Square and 14th Street offices to transit.
