They should add residences with the grocery store. Anything to increase downtown's population. Or put Trader Joe's in 1221 Broadway. I don't know how much retail space is expected to be in 1221, but Trader Joe's can be built very small.

It would be neat downtown, but probably it will be at the Rim, the Quarry, or some other higher income shopping area.

I was driving by Cevallos Lofts which is getting the facade put on; looks like they could have residents moving in by early next year, and I noticed one of the empty lots across the street.

http://cevallosmodern.com/

Not much else going on; Hilton Home2Suites should be opening soon, the first floor is going up at Pearl Can apts, Roy Smith got paved near 1221, and work is actually getting done at Steel House Lofts.

More downtown residents expected with Mosaic project
Quote:
It's going to become a bit easier to find an apartment near downtown in the coming year.

Next week, work will begin on the Mosaic, a mixed-use development that is expected to add to the Midtown urbanization that is occurring around the northern stretch of the San Antonio River Walk.

What is now a vacant lot near the Pearl Brewery is expected to become a four-story development that will incorporate about 11,200 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and 120 rental apartments, said George Mauzé, president of Broadway Developments, the entity that owns the property.

There hasn't been a deal finalized for the retail space but Mauzé is talking to a potential tenant about opening an establishment that would be a bakery, grocery, deli and wine bar. The remaining retail space would be open to a potential restaurant and two live/work spaces.

The project is expected to come online as early as December 2012.

There will be 108 one-bedroom units, six one bedrooms with a study and 12 two-bedroom units that range in size from 540 square feet to 1,242 square feet. Rents will range from $850 to $2,500 a month and about a dozen units will be offered to students at a discounted rate, which will start at $646 for a smaller one-bedroom apartment.

Well, with the residential units "under construction" number to go over 1000 in the next week, and HVHC, Argo and HNTB to move into IBC, looks like we have residential and office getting some good momentum. Now it looks like the entertainment/retail/restaurant areas will get a boost as well.

Plus this,

At first I was upset that they weren't adding Lucky Strikes to Rivercenter, but then I looked up Bowlmor Lanes and am much more pleased.

*sigh* Sad to see the old Joske's/Dillards reduced to a goddamn Margaritaville.

The renderings of the facade redevelopment have been floating around for a while now, so it's hard to know how current that info really is. I work at Dinosaur-Quest in the Joske's building in Rivercenter btw, and this is news to me. We have the second largest retail space in that end of the mall; the old Sam Goody's space-- 20,000 sq, so we'd certainly be out of there if all this stuff happens. There's all sorts of redevelopment rumors floating around, but nobody I know at the mall in the office knows much.

That's on the east end of the mall, above Hooters and Chilis and all the other crap, nowhere near the Joske's building.

Yeah I tried looking at the old renderings that were posted on here and some of the older/similar ones still had the Lucky Strike signage on it.

This was from just over a year ago....

It's not. It's going to be a goddamn Dave & Busters

It certainly seems like they're settling with Starbucks, Five Guys, Chipotle, Dave and Busters and Margaritaville. So much for upscale, but they need to fill it up if they hope to sell it.

...Jimmy Buffet?....ughhh...goddamn parrot heads.

But if there ever was a location for a place called Margaritaville, it's SA.

I think they always wanted it to be a entertainment hot spot (Joske building) not a Shops at La Cantera. Putting in a D&B's and Bowlmor does that an then some.

However, the retailers they are bringing in are def more high end then what is currently at the Rivercenter Mall.

Just drove down Broadway and it looks like the sites for both residential projects just north of downtown are turning dirt already with them clearing out concrete slabs, etc.
