^^ Is there a name for this style in China? I've been seeing it in several random places but I cannot find a common thread to investigate more fully.

At any rate, it's beautiful. Simple, straightforward, but very rich in its use of materials. Something like this could revolutionize the suburbs from the EIFS hell they are now.

It's sorta like the rebuilt portions of Qianmen street in Beijing:

EXIT architects: easter sculpture museum

an existing building within the winding streets of the town of hellín, spain, the casa del conde, has been transformed into the 'easter sculpture museum' by spanish firm EXIT architects. the original painted facade which responds to the adjacent church and surroundings has been restored while the rest of the house was replaced with a contemporary gallery. fusing the vintage facade and new exhibition areas, the translucent glass-enclosed volume fulfills the original footprint and maintains the established scale relationships of the context, adjusting the arrangement of the levels to adapt to the sloping terrain.

The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia
Billard Leece Partnership and Bates Smart complete major new hospital for children inspired by a connection to nature

Billard Leece Partnership and Bates Smart's design for The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne, completed September 2011, is based on ‘state of the art’ ideas developed by the Hospital around a family-centred care model that puts children and their parents at the centre of the facility. With evidence-based design showing the importance and value of nature in the healing process, the architectonic language is informed by the natural textures, forms and colours of surrounding Royal Park. The built environment infused with the experience of nature creates an enriching and restorative environment for children, staff and the public.

Citylights / Dominique Perrault Architecture

Dominique Perrault Architecture shared with us their winning proposal in the international architecture competition launched by General Electric Capital Real Estate for the requalification of the Pont de Sèvres Towers. Their design response, which could at first appear minimalist, proposes a luminous landmark for one of the most ambitious programs in the service sector of the Western Paris area.

Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MMAW) / Camilo Rebelo

The design proposal for the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MMAW) by Camilio Rebelo results from the fusion of two themes always present in the history of Art expression: nature’s figurative and abstract representation. The museum demonstrates an amalgam of distinct realities, diverse cultures, and simultaneously a neutral setting as well as hold a unique and magnetic identity: Mutant Nature.

Shigeru Ban’s Christchurch Cardboard Cathedral Gets the Green Light for Construction
by Andrew Michler, 04/23/12

Shigeru Ban’s temporary cardboard cathedral finally got the green light to be erected in Christchurch, New Zealand. Now called the “Transitional Cathedral”, the building will replace a 19th century church that was heavily damaged in the 2011 earthquake – until funds for a permanent building are raised. The temporary building will hold 700 parishioners, it can be constructed with a fraction of the time and cost it takes to create a traditional building, and it can be re-erected for a different purpose in the future.

Moreava Cabins are Airy Eco-Accommodations for Easter Island Explorers
by Ana Lisa Alperovich, 04/24/12

Dubbed the Moreava Cabins, this cluster of luxurious eco-huts was designed with the delicate ecosystem of Easter Island in mind. Santiago-based AATA Arquitectos Asociados built the bunch of sustainable huts for guests who want to spend a relaxing time on the island without harming the very wildlife they came to enjoy. With adequate air-flow, solar panels for energy, solar collectors to heat water and low-impact architecture, this holiday retreat will make guests feel closer to nature.

Heidelberg Castle was awesome... such a crazy mix of styles over time, and the views are insane. Oh, and they have the world's largest wine keg, der Grosse Fass..
