I see it both ways. Some people I know live central and use public transit.
I had done that at times when I lived in Osborne Village but still had a car..
And if that does not work for you, then you rent or buy elsewhere. But...For me and others, a car is required for work and client visits,sometimes in far reaches or out of town..Also..and often to care for elders that rely on your visiting them, buying groceries and driving them to visit others and or to doctor appts etc..

Right, it depends on the person. Every tenant shouldn't be forced to pay the cost of 1.2 parking stalls when guaranteed many people won't need it. Why should those without a car have to pay for the tenants with 2?

When it comes to paying for parking spots, some places charge extra for a spot and some places include one parking space with the rental unit. Then people have the option to pay extra for more spots if they are available. Someone who chooses not to use a spot shouldn’t pay less rent because they choose not to use an amenity that is available to them. And why wouldn’t someone use the spot even if they didn’t drive. You could use it for friends and relatives who come to visit. Or for home care that come if you’re an older person who needs assistance. If it’s secure indoor parking you could use it to store bikes and patio furniture for the balcony in the winter. You could put a small storage container on it. There’s so much you could do with the space. Same with condos... why wouldn’t you want a spot? Especially in Winnipeg.

Friend of mine literally lived across the street at Taylor & Stafford for years without a car, there are lots of bus routes there....

The City had good coverage of bus routes. Is just the frequency and reliability that is not the greatest. Even far flung suburbs have bus service. You just need to walk out to the main road.

I was of the belief you could not build that many floors ? So, here there will be 7 in all wood construction? Not sure... I thought max..height was 4 and local developers pushing for 6 like In Minneapolis? Personally, I would never buy, rent or live in a multi tenant building unless concrete construction. Much safer..

Multi storey stud wall buildings are really only at risk while they are under construction. Once everything is finished out on the interior, the fire ratings are achieved and catastopic fires would be an extremely rare event.

Most people don't like them due to the real or possibly the perception or inferior sound transfer between suites.

New wood ones as I understand it have to be sprinkled in each unit and common area's which should make them safer than brick units where stuff will continue to burn until the fire dept shows up.

Sprinkled in each unit must drive up your home insurance costs.
