Struggling to say anything nice about the design.

Are they purposefully trying to make it look like something from the 1970s? It'll be outdated the day they open it.

Edit: It's growing on me, somewhat, but I still feel it's a little too heavy on 70s design influence.

It looks like in the area of the Glacier, on the doorstep to dannyland. It does look a lot like an old style Holiday Inn, but hopefully won't turn into another black building like the ALT hotel on Water Street.

yep, literally next door to the Glacier.

Tell you what, those top floor east facing windows are going to have some view of the sunrise over the city every morning.

Gateway at CBS

Finally some movement at this development in CBS:

http://www.bainejohnston.com/new-developments/

Rumors are a drive through only Tim Hortons and Wing'n it restaurant so far. This is directly across the street from CBS arena. Equipment has been onsite for a while with footings completed/steel on the ground.

Far cry from Walmart/Canadian Tire that was rumored a couple years ago. Planning for Galway and economy downturn looks to have put a stop to that.

The old ACAN windows building is about 3/4 demoed now. I didn't realize how big that building was until it started coming down.

In its place, the plan is to construct a retail centre measuring between 80,000 and 90,000 square feet.

Construction is set to begin next summer, with the first stores opening in the spring of 2019.

While Di Giorgio was unable to confirm which retailers would set up shop or how many of retailers there will be, he says they’ll be new national retailers.

“We’re trying to bring in new retailers and services that the citizens of Paradise need right now, that are missing, quite honestly,” says Di Giorgio

New community centre under construction for Kenmount Terrace Park on Messenger Drive. They have extended Messenger Drive significantly beyond Metrobus.

Noticed some fencing and an excavator next to Furniture Market on Kenmount Rd. Seems to be a "commercial garage" going there: http://www.stjohns.ca/sites/default/...25.%202017.pdf

I believe there's a Mr. Lube sign next to the fencing.

Missed this but looks like there was also a preliminary approval of a gas bar & convenience store for the old ACAN site in paradise when the demolition was approved:

Not much room at all. I would imagine a bit of land clearing will be needed.

Anyone else find it kinda strange that the developer of this huge ACAN project has no website (that I can find anyway)? And a gas station is the first thing they build on this iconic piece of property? Expectations starting to fade on this.

What makes the property iconic?

They do have a website: http://www.alreproperties.ca/ Not much info on there though.

The only info I have read is that it's going to be retail centre 80,000-90,000 sq ft with first stores planning to open next spring.

I don’t know, maybe because it had a huge ACAN window factory on it and that building has been there for generations. It’s also on the shores of Octagon Pond and is a prime piece of real estate.
