Missisauga?), they could central it for the entire country -- they must ship everything all neatly packed in boxes, all neatly packed in intermodal rail cars. (Heh, Ikea Winnipeg could have it's own spur line if you think about it).
Keep in mind CentrePoint is a special duty free zone. I think this means that US bound shipments can arrive in CentrePoint and be loaded onto trucks with a special seal on their cargo and cross into the USA. That means CentrePoint could be the distribution centre for the mid-west stores too.

Centre Port. Centrepoint is the ALT Hotel and included developments downtown.

Or maybe its truevikings secret - a 150+ storey tower that handles distribution, cargo containers and famous musicians!

Now they don't have to. Neither do people in Brandon.

This is a good point.

It will be interesting to see what transpires with that. Perhaps that was the mystery "large european company" I was told about?

Not a [certain car company from Germany] but rather a big-deal Swedish retailer?

I wonder. I was not actually given a name, hence my own speculation. I do believe the FTZ played a large role in whatever negotiations are ongoing/had transpired

I overheard talk that there may be a new bus route specifically for Ikea. Gotta wait til Spring though, or check the city clerk system again for updates.

Found this on the IKEA Fans Website:

Go down half way for a proposed routing of Route-78. (It is probably a couple of years old)

Just when you think the 78 Kenaston Leg couldn't get any longer.

Woo, service every... well, seeing as how Winnipeg Transit cant afford to increase Kenaston service but can do it to every other suburb in the city...

really? transit is subsidised by the taxpayers and should my taxes go to support a bus line to a mega store that has their employees staying late? perhaps the developer of the entire area should be subsiding the cost of extending the routes?

They pay taxes too. Lots of people don't seem to realize that.

Is it worth visiting IKEA yet? Have the crowds subsided?

Probably won't be too bad on a weekday. I went on Wednesday opening day after work around 7. It was busy but there was quite a few open parking spots.

I went again on Sunday around 1:30 to pick up some doors to the tv cabinet we bought. It was nuts. The parking lot was completely full so they started directing people to park in the Cabellas (i think its a cabellas) and Lowes side which were getting pretty full too. Upon leaving, there were cars lined up well past rothwell to the south trying to get into the parking lot. A police cruiser was blocking that first left turn prior to sterling lyon (i assume so they would have to go through Sterling lyon and park in the overflow lots).

I had come in from the east via sterling lyon and at the time there was no traffic issues getting in.

went saturday afternoon, had to park BEHIND ikea near the loading bays. went back monday evening to make a purchase(6pm) and it was very quiet and parking was readily available.

weekends will most likely continue to be 'outta control' but weekdays will be be tolerant for locals going to grab something....much like costco or superstore!

Is it a better shopping experience than the Twin Cities IKEA? I found that one to be a warehouse with furniture displays.
