Great article on the new restaurant Odla - replacing Ninos on Broadway.

Quote:
In recent years, Canadians have been gradually waking up to what a great food scene Saskatoon has to offer, yet it still remains something of a hidden gem for most. Well, it’s looking like another culinary gem will be to added to Saskatoon’s ever-expanding culinary roster by way of Arlie Laroche and her farm, Farm One Forty. Laroche and her team are unsung heroes of the Saskatoon food scene, supplying to concepts like Ayden Kitchen and Bar, Sticks and Stones and Little Grouse as well as truly locally-minded places like Hearth, The Hollows and its sister restaurant, Primal, among others, with livestock from its 140 acre holistic farm.

Recently, Arlie announced exciting news about the future of Farm One Forty, which includes an expansion into the city as the company is currently in the process of opening its first restaurant, Odla--which means “to farm” or “to cultivate” in Swedish --in the former Nino’s Restaurant space in the heart of the Broadway neighbourhood.

Joining forces with Arlie as head chef is Rural Catering a owner, Scott Dicks. Additionally, former general manager and sommelier of The Hollows and Primal, Lacey Sellinger, will be taking on her usual roles at the new restaurant and food market.

Odla is expected to be up and running this April and are encouraging people to follow them on Instagram for further updates.

Fun fact: If you google Ninos, the first hit is a tripadvisor review titled "Ummm Scary" haha. One less black spot on Saskatoon replaced with a gold one!

I think that could be a great addition to Broadway and with the Prairie Sun Brewery building coming along, there will be some great energy added to Broadway in the coming year!

For Onyx and Gold Air Miles people Little Grouse on the Prairie has a five course dinner including wine pairings, take homes, etc., for 500 points per person on March 28:

That is an excellent value!

Both Saskatoon and Regina are getting Olive Gardens. I'm assuming the Saskatoon location is going where Chili's used to be

Are they still as popular as they used to be? I've had zero desire to go to one when visiting cities with them when there's so many better and more unique/original restaurants to try.

A Joey would definitely be more popular with my group of friends, but even then it's still an overpriced chain restaurant so it wouldn't be a staple to go to.

Like I've said in the Regina threads, pasta places are a staple for families with young kids! I'm sure it will be a busy place when and long after it opens. Guess where our family is headed (by Mommy's choice) when it gets built here! And guess where we'll be eating when we come visiting great ol' Saskatoon (besides, Jerry's, Fuddrucker's, Yip Hong's, Go For Sushi, Cactus Club, Milestones, etc.!).

The work on the old Nino's on Broadway is starting to be exposed for the new restaurant and market, Odla. Looks like a very nice rehab and will definitely add to the appeal of Broadway.

You can also see a small section of the new Prairie Sun Brewery on Broadway...again, looks like nice brick work and will be a great addition to the district. I just wish it would have pursued being licensed for music as well! Need a few more live music venues.

Here's a good piece that sums up much of my feelings on local restaurants vs chains.

I noticed the Asian restaurant next to The Rook and Raven is no more and now has a fresh coat of white paint on the outside, along with a couple colourful paintings up top--anyone know what's going in there?

The rumor I heard is that the same family who operate The Spice Trail are opening up a second location on Broadway. I've eaten at The Spice Trail in PA and was not disappointed so I'm looking forward to them moving into the Broadway District!

Will this be going into the former Nosh location?

Crystal Bright appears to be permanently closed.
Can anyone name all the previous restaurant attempts in this location?
Quite a string of them if I recall correctly.

Stacked, Woodfire Grill, Smiley's...

It's a decent location for something small - it's a shame nothing has really stuck yet.

Leo's (or something similar)? Oh yes!

Generally, I've always felt that 2nd ave would be better anchored by bars than clothes or restaurants.
