If the Bombers manage to secure a win on Saturday it is a near certainty that we are hosting a playoff game this season. Saturday's win give us the season series over both the Stamps and the Riders. The Elks are not in a position to contend for a west playoff spot. It is definitely too early to count the Lions out as they have only played the Bombers 1 of the 3 times this season with the other two being the last games of the season. The way the Lions were playing with Rourke it had been looking like they could run the season with only one loss until the very end v the Bombers. With Rourke out for the season it is unknown how the Lions will do over the next month.

In all of their comedy of errors, the Riders finally did something right - they dumped Marino. Long time coming.

Marino has been released by the Roughriders. Good riddance to bad rubbish. At least he won't get a chance to target Collaros again.

From what I am reading the Riders didn't exactly have a choice on releasing Marino. It seems in response to the attempted targeting of Collaros, which would be the third starting QB he took out this season, the CFL commissioner effectively issued a ban on Marino playing again.

Good. You get rid of a guy like Marino and nobody cares. But losing a starting QB costs the league big big dollas.

Ambrosie de-certified his contract. No contract, no CFL for you. They can do this at anytime.

My understanding was it was after the fact. Ambrosie has the power to stop him being hired by another team, and he sent a letter to that effect to all of the teams after he was released.

Let's be real here, Ambrosie clearly stepped in on Marino and had a conversation with the Riders on the permanent removal of him from the league. If the Riders were acting wholely on their own they would have released him after the Ottawa incident.

Has O'Shea passed Cal Murphy yet for all time wins as Bombers coach? I know Bud Grant is in 1st place with 122 wins in 10 years as Bombers coach.

This is from a 2020 bluebombers.com article:

Quote:
1. Bud Grant, 1957-66: 102 – There’s a statue of him at the front of IG Field and he was one of the first to be added to the Ring of Honour for a reason – the man’s fingerprints were all over the franchise’s Glory years with 102 regular season victories and four Grey Cup wins during his days on the sidelines before he left for the Minnesota Vikings.
His overall regular-season record was 102-56-2, for a .644 winning percentage.

2. Cal Murphy, 1983-86, 1993-96: 86 – Murphy also has a statue at IG Field as he was one of the architects, both as a head coach and GM, of the Bombers successes in the 1980s through to the mid-1990s. He was the man on the sidelines when the Bombers broke a long Grey Cup drought with a win in 1984 and was the GM of the ’88 and ’90 championship teams.
Overall: 86-51-1, for a .627 winning percentage.

3. Mike O’Shea, 2014- : 56 – The current boss was a key figure in the current rebuild, culminating in last November’s Grey Cup victory that ended the longest championship drought in franchise history. He’s been on the sidelines for six years now and the club is 44-28 in the past four.
Overall: 56-52, for a .519 winning percentage.
Add 22 more regular season wins so far to O'Shea's total and he's up to 78. So he won't catch Cal Murphy this year but if he sticks around for another season then he certainly will. Winning the Grey Cup this year and sticking around for another season would put O'Shea in the statue commissioning zone

Wow O Shea since 2014. Doesn't feel that long to me, for some reason. But yes definitely in that statue territory lol

^ It is interesting how low profile he is. You see O'Shea all the time, even Wade Miller is quite prominent. But Walters kind of lurks in the shadows.

You can be real all you want boss. And at same time you can provide some link to back up your position. I just related what was reported in the FP. I can provide the link if you want.

Here, I'll make it easy for you. The attached FP article is one of many that say the same thing. The hit on Collaros was basically the last straw from Dickenson's perspective - and the fact Marino was likely going to be suspended for further games anyway. The CFL has to register contracts but, once they have, they don't have the power to end a legal contract between a club and a player. However, as he did, he can send a memo out saying the next contract won't be registered.

The Bombers have signed Zach Collaros for three more years.

https://twitter.com/Wpg_BlueBombers/...C8jfYipwBLHF4g

In hindsight, it is incredible to think that Collaros was considered so expendable just three short years ago that he was on the league scrap heap... Toronto sent him over for draft picks, and that was after Saskatchewan had already washed their hands of him as the starter earlier in 2019. I don't know that a CFL player has ever had a comeback on that scale before. Talk about silencing the critics.

IMO great news about Collaros. He'll be able to finish his career here, and keep the team a contender. I wonder if they have the spot for his statue picked out?

As for history, Collaros was as fortunate to land with the Bombers at that juncture as the Bombers were to get him. It's interesting to see how successful QB's were often thought to be washed up, only to rise in another setting. I think Calvillo was in the same position with Hamilton before Montreal helped him develop into a superstar.

Of course you still see the ritual sacrificing of QB's today. It looks like Sask. fans want to do the same thing to Cody Fajardo.

I think the Bombers O-line deserves a lot of credit for extending Collaros' career too.

And I agree with pspeid - the timing was perfect for all parties involved when Zach was signed.

Wow, amazing. He'll be pretty old in 3 years. Hopefully we can keep this train of signings going with the O line and defense.
