Well it wasn't only tarps. There were all the wooden forms for the concrete that would burn longer and hotter and then any fuel for the heaters. I wouldn't be surprised if a good amount of the already set concrete on near the very top was structurally weakened if not somewhat compromised by the fire.

In some good news all lanes on Pembina Highway are now open.

An article in the Freep today mentions that the fire is now suspected to be arson based on video-recorded evidence that has come to light.

Wow. Terrible. Crimes like arson are so dumb because in cases like this they're just damaging the owners without any obvious benefit to the offenders. I could understand if someone needed to resort to theft to feed themselves for example, but even sleazier crimes like fraud or embezzlement that enrich the offender make more sense. But seriously, arson and vandalism etc, is just a manifestation of anarchy. How about you use your spare time to do something constructive! Great irritant of mine. Hope that the offenders are caught and understand how stupid setting fire to stuff for fun is.

Edit: a surprising amount of unnecessary punctuation managed to find its way into this somehow. I was annoyed when I reread it

I agree. It’s hard to understand the their motive for arson.

Luckily it seems that they have resumed construction this one. I go past it every day and I can see workers doing small things. The crane has been constantly moving.

The article says the entire 16th floor is a loss and will have to be rebuilt. Will delay opening by a year.

Arson? That's pretty low for someone to even do that.

Not sure if that person was doing it for shits and giggles, or is mentally unstable. Either way, this is not what anybody wanted to hear, but at least it wasn't a total loss.

Sounded like more than one person. It seems like a very strange target to choose if you were bent on arson and not really a location where a lot of mentally ill people would be wandering around in the dead of winter looking for something to do. Did the fire not start high up in the building as well, or do they not know? Something in this story doesn’t fit.

^^^ That's a good question but I suppose if we can get pictures from the roofs of buildings we're not supposed to be on, an arsonist can do it too.

My guess is insurance scam or kids mucking around after hours. Of course, I guess that pretty much covers every possibility except for some crazy who was told to set the top floor on fire by his Rice Krispies.

Stairs....they've been around for thousands of years.

Doesn't look like it. Still hasn't been cleaned up after the fire. Maybe partially.

They have been working every day on this one - or had every time i was by a few times week ago. They just haven't cleaned up the burnt insulation yet. They have replaced all of the tarps in the burnt floors and have removed all of the compromised structural work on the upper floors. I believe the whole left side of the 15th floor has just been poured (or re-poured). Every time I have been by the crane has been lifting stuff.
