Why are there above ground parking spaces for a project like this? Is this the norm in Niagara Falls because it's a tourist destination?
Pretty much. A lot of the people that go to Niagra Falls drive in from the cities that surround it (Hamilton, Toronto, etc). The whole city is quite automobile dependent.

Even so, that surface parking lot is horrible.

These are quite lovely they go with the other buildings in the area.
Sarcasm I pray.

What with the haunted houses and wax museums just up the street, this kind of strange design is no surprise to me. I visited that side of the river/falls in 1988 and walking through that area was one of the more surreal experiences I have ever had... "La Villa Strangiato"
I live about 30 minutes from Niagara Falls and I go all the time. For people that haven't been there, or haven't been there that many times, this may seem like a weird proposal. The reality is that this fits in with Niagara Falls better then some of the exsisting buildings in Niagara Falls. Lets all remember that Niagara Falls is a major tourist destination, basically the Las Vegas of Canada, and the hotels need to stand out from one another for people to want to stay there. For what they are, I actually think that these buildings look pretty good, I love the Dubai look that they have.
p.s. I am pretty sure that these have been approved so everyone better get used to them, lol
Loretto Christian Life, the owners of a historic property in Niagara Falls, are seeking to have the approval of Niagara Falls City council, to construct three high rise towers on a 8 acre property site, which is currently the home of a century old school, and idealic park settings. The towers will range from the low end of just 32 floors, to a monster tower of 57 floors. The tower caught in between will be 42 floors. There would also be two smaller structures either of which could be hotel or condo residences by the falls. There will be preservation work to ensure the longivity of the historic structures.
