Interesting. And exciting.

Oy, I just hope there's a significant reclad or new construction. I'd hate for us to be stuck with The Battery Hotel as it appears today.

I'm glad someone started this thread (Signal). I think there will be new developments at MUN for awhile, but the campus is starting to run out of space, which may help explain the purchase of The Battery.

And are ahead of schedule right now. Possibly allowing conference guests by April in the west building. East building could possibly be operational as early as Sept

Good timelapse, but it doesn't show the whole thing to (current) completion.

I bet you discovered that the same way I did; checking to see if today's "Here and Now" interview with shannie duff was online?

Very cool indeed! I wish all construction sites did this.. It would be pretty easy to stick a camera on top of Scotia Place to film 351's progress and one on the delta for Fortis. It's too late for those projects, but time-lapse videos are very cool

agreed, they are very cool. CBC also had one a few weeks back that someone took of snow accumulating on their car. Apparently there is now a time lapse iphone app.

I think with all the photos Signal has of 351 and fortis, he might be able to string something together.

Though I don't really think the info is correct I heard someone say the other day that the new science building would begin construction soon and would be built in the parking lot in the middle of the science building.

Yeah that would be correct. Though I'm not sure when the buildings are slated for construction I know that the new building won't be in the parking lot of the old building

Yeah I saw it on the news after. I didn't realize it was going to happen this soon.

The current first-choice for the new science building is two buildings, one on the west side of the University Centre (parking lot 16a) and a second building in front of the Business building. There's a link to the proposal on the first page of this thread.

Update on the New Science Building at MUN
Construction on a new $250-million science building at Memorial University in St. John's is not expected to start until next Spring. The funds were announced in last year's budget. MUN President Dr. Gary Kachanoski says two sites are under consideration, on either side of the University Centre along Prince Philip Drive. Kachanoski was the guest speaker at this week's meeting of the Rotary Club of St. John's. Kachanoski says he expects the tender for architectural drawings to go out this Spring.

He says with laboratory buildings there's the issue of lab fume hoods which take up space on other floors, so sometmes he says it's more efficient to spread the building out over a larger footprint. Kachanoski says whether that means separate locations or one larger building, that decision hasn't been made. He says the decision will be made very soon based on fiscal considerations.

This was mentioned on NTV news last night as well. From what I saw, it looks like they are definately going with the 2 building option which I believe was previously announced. $250M is a lot of cash for 2 buildings. Hopefully they will build something to be proud of. The battery purchase was also touched on. Said that they wanted to put their community outreach center there. Not sure what that is. Anyone know? Also said that the purchase hasn't been completed yet. Guess they are still doing their inspections. Maybe if we are lucky they will find that there are too many problems to fix and the purchase will fall through leaving the hotel to be demolished and the site to go on the market again. Looks like there is an article on the speech in the hard copy & full e-version of The Telegram today, neither of which I have access to.
