Cyber security industry grows in S.A.

Thousands of times every day, an enemy attacks the government’s computer networks, according to Robert Williams of 21st Century Technologies.
“The sophistication of those attacks is also increasing,” said Williams, vice president of product development for the defense contracting firm.
But a new military mission coming to San Antonio will battle cyber attacks. The U.S. Air Force announced plans to put its cyber command, the 24th Air Force, at Lackland AFB. Its mission will be to secure the military’s communications and data systems.
The cyber command will be a boon to San Antonio’s bustling defense contracting industry. It will bring an estimated 400 highly skilled jobs with annual salaries ranging between $70,000 and $75,000 to San Antonio, said Bill Mock, executive vice president of Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. But it also will generate additional jobs among the more than 80 private defense companies here that specialize in computer network security, cryptology and data analysis, he said.
