That mean it's the IKEA of grocers? I hadn't heard of them until I saw the article.

Aldi's and Trader Joe's were once the same company owned by two German brothers. But the business was split in half with each brother going in their own direction. The two chains no longer have any connection to each other than their history.

Well, from what I've heard, Aldi will be in SA within the next year and was waiting until they were close to fully built out in Houston before entering the SA market.

I have to wonder if Lidl entering the San Antonio market first has escalated Aldi's plans.

Aldi still owns Trader Joe's. The purchase was a few years back. The brothers split the Aldi brand in the former West Germany. I believe they are both dead now.

Yeah, it's through a trust rather than direct management. The family dynamics and history of the brands is pretty interesting.

Between 2011 and 2016, San Antonio had the third largest GPD increase in the country.

Land bridge is a go

I think this is an interesting concept. From what I understand, it will be the only one like it in the country.

Hardberger Park needed a connection between the two sides.

Check out this article! Apparently the influx of millennials to San Antonio is pretty substantial:

RR has an article on this as well, as well as a breakdown of the numbers.

Just a quick kudos to the city for a so far, successful Final Four. The Dome looks packed and, for the Loyola-Michigan, was rocking.

The weather even joined in. Exciting to see San Antonio in the spotlight, and shining back just a brightly.

Nice article about our fair city:

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/s...ned1005PMStory

10. Listen to live music
Austin might have the reputation, but San Antonio has been a bona-fide music town for much longer, a melodious heritage that includes blues, soul, country, conjunto and even heavy metal.
Among the best places to catch tunes around town are JazzTX in the Pearl, the Cowboys Dancehall, which features modern country and Tejano, and Sam's Burger Joint, with a menu of live music that includes just about every American genre.

Number 10 was particularly satisfying for me.

What the heck is this? An FAA permit for a 900 foot crane for "Texas observation boot"

The location is in one of the parking lots at the Alamodome.

Well, I saw this in the urban core thread but thought it might be deleted so I'll try it here---

We've got 1,900 miles of streets in San Antonio that don't have sidewalks, and we're still considering ourselves a world-class city?

Who believes this stuff?

What kind of progressive, forward looking city is lacking in sidewalks to the tune of nearly TWO THOUSAND MILES?

Why can't we just admit that we're really behind in a lot of key areas and do what needs to be done to get where we want to be, instead of pretending everything is wonderful?

I agree and glad they're trying to (finally) do something about it.

Why would it be deleted from the urban core thread? I thought it was about infrastructure that applied directly to the urban core...most of the streets without sidewalks are on the West and East side. That map looks like something from a sociology textbook. There has obviously been systematic, unfair distribution of the city's resources for decades.

Yep. It's an absolute embarrassment that you can literally go 2 minutes outside of downtown and you're already in neighborhoods without sidewalks.
