Like the Walk of Fame. Seriously, tourists could do so many other Hollywood things that are so much better like seeing a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, a movie at the El Capitan, experiencing a live taping of a TV Show, doing the Warner Bros Studio Tour, visiting the Magic Castle. But what do they do? They go to the Walk of Fame and do a bus tour of Movie Stars homes. And then they come back and say LA sucks!

I can't wait for the AMPAS museum to open.

Something small, but a good step in the right direction for a more pedestrian friendly Downtown.

New Traffic Signals Aim To Keep Pedestrians Safe In Downtown LA

The city is implementing a new way to keep pedestrians safe in heavily congested downtown Los Angeles.

“I look twice, three times before I step off the curb,” says Nick Romero, who walks about six miles from the bus stop every day.

“Three times I’ve seen people come within a foot or two of getting hit by a car,” he said.

The reason may be due in part to aggressive drivers and those in a rush.

Last week, special traffic signals were installed that allow for more time before drivers are given the green light.

“It’s nice, it makes you feel more comfortable,” Romero said.

There are currently 16 intersections in downtown with the new traffic signals, the result of a push by Councilman Jose Huizar. He hopes to see the signals installed throughout the city.

The new lights cost about $10,000 per intersection.

Really stupid tourists always want to see stupid shit on the westside (altough they think all of LA is like the westside). It's just the whole percieved culture of LA from some westside neighbohoods that give LA this materialistic, vain, gossipy, extravegant image of unnecessarily large mansions, country clubs, luxury cars, and valet parking. Some tourists think that stuffs cool and I'm just like why?

Did that make sense? Or did I sound like some kind of self-righteous hipster?

All the gimmicky and whimsical tourist attractions outside of DOWNTOWN makes it that much more authentic, vibrant and appealing to be there or will be in a few years IMO, Overtime you'll see more and more tourist & visitors who are actually in search of the " Real LA" and DOWNTOWN will offer that balance that all incoming visitors & tourists will use to scale out their full L.A. experience!!

Little Tokyo gets a good amount of vistors. Always a lot of people on weekends.

Yes-- when we visited and stayed in DTLA a few years ago, we also visited Little Tokyo, Chinatown, and Olvera Street.

I always suggest to friends/relatives visiting LA to check out the observation deck and architecture at LA City Hall. The interior lobby reminds me of a Byzantine church, and the observation deck is free. Trouble is, because it's a city hall, it's closed on weekends and holidays.

Also saw it on some DC blogs etc. My thought is if can generate an additional 20 to 30 million in revenues a year as they do elsewhere, that would seem to help support a lot of additional high rise construction.

No doubt it'll create revenue. People like me will gobble this up. I can only name a few major cities that I've ever traveled to where I didn't go completely out of my way to see it from above, whether its a peak, skyscraper, church belltower, communications tower, Ferris wheel, etc. And the one's that did feature some sort of glass gimmick were wildly popular with tourists - every time. Although I'm horrified that that skywalk was allowed to be built at the Grand Canyon, it doesn't surprise me at all that even that glass gimmick seems to be popular.

If they allow it, I'm gonna Rickey Henderson that thing face down. Twice.

Currently, the biggest tourist attraction in the greater downtown area is probably the space shuttle at the CA Science Center. And coincidentally the May arrival of its companion shuttle fuel tank is all over the news.

I think that Togawa Smith Martin does good work now and then, but my God the colors are awful. It makes one wonder what in the Hell the designers and developers who approve of this rubbish are thinking of.
