Hey, we're down to optimize the database. This shouldn't take more than 90 minutes.
The issues we've been experiencing should be cleared up by next week sometime, with new disks on the database servers.

...

I wish people would stop complaining all the time and just find something else to do when it goes down.
The problem is it's growing really fast. Just check big-boards.com
Last year it was at about place 80, now it's at 53

^^ I believe you that SSC has grown enormously but this didn't happen overnight, one way or the other it is not normal that new problems are popping up day after day.
I am not complaining at all but as written above why not close it for a week or so and clean the whole place up?
I guess it would make life easier for the technical staff and for the people who are visiting, in other terms make a huge announcement.
Be honest since the latest upgrade there are to many problems to handle at once.

i think SSC is growing fast, things do go wrong from time to time. I am not addicted to SSC therefore I am ok if the forums are down for weeks on end.

I think ppl should chill and post some nice projects here, I am trying to do updates for Zagreb and if you ppl have time try to visit Zagreb thread and post some nice comments.

Just to say, I prefer SSP forums, less politics and more projects, I like SSC bc of the community there, loads of nice ppl there, but overall for quality I prefer SSP. Would be nice if SSP expands a bit and ppl are more active so I don't miss all the fun I get on SSC. BTW just lowered cost of my ISP/telephone service, from 20 quid to 14 a month, + 6 months free access to the net.

Also since I was in mood, I blackmailed my Energy supplier, told him either he lowers my cost of fuel or I am off to Eon or some other company. EDF got scared and they credited my account with 30 quid for Electricity and 30 pounds for my Gas. I'll still leave when I come back from states

I guess, if I get the message right, that it will be down until the new discs are installed next week?

That's a long time to go without SSC - I guess i planned my vacation in the wrong week

Speaking of big boards there's a forum out there with over 1 million members and over 27 million threads.

The skybar has posts from the same day in the first 8 pages and that doesn't even include the skybar's sub-forums.

Now that's crowded!

That sounds WAY TOO crowded!!!

I like it when there enough people to have a "conversation" going, but not enough for threads to drown in an hour..

Yeah, those big-boards is interesting!

SSC is ranked nr. 53 with 16 669 700 posts.
SSP is ranked nr. 1 193 with 1 408 397 posts.

SSC is ranked nr. 218 with 200 215 members.
SSP is ranked nr. 1 482 with 17 699 members.

The difference between SSC and SSP is huge, so no wonder SSC is having much bigger problems every now and then than SSP. To update and redo things is also a much heavier job the bigger the place/server(s) is etc.

^maybe SSC should focus things a bit - I mean there are huge communties completely isolated within the national or regional subforums who don't even speak a word English.. people with 5000+ posts you've never heard of or seen in the general areas..

It's not that I mind that as such, but when the forum can't even operate normally, what's the point of having those subforums the rest of the members can't use or benefit from.. seems like an awefully lot of resourses are "wasted" on such.. especially when a couple subforums, like f.ex the Nordic and Baltics can easily do it.. all the scraper stuff should be posted in the main sections where they belongs and where all can access it without online dictonaries and crossed fingers..
It is primarily an English site, so that is how I think it should be kept with the exception of a few threads here and there.. especially when the site can't even stay online for more than an hour or two at the time..

That's my opinion anyway..
