It will have 429 residential units spread out over 39 floors, and 87 of the units will be affordable, according to a representative from SLCE Architects, the architect of record.

Planned amenities include a swimming pool and a basketball court on the second floor. The first floor will include a roughly 2,300-square-foot retail space, according to the permit application. BLDG is also developing a $35.3 million project on a site of a former gas station in the East Village. 87 Affordable Apartments Coming to 41-Story Tower in Midtown East

Eighty-seven affordable apartments are coming to Midtown East, thanks to a developer who plans to knock down a parking garage and build a 41-story residential tower in its place, the city said.

The proposal is still in the early stages of review, HPD spokesman Eric Bederman said.

BLDG Management, the developer, purchased the property for $32 million in April 2014, according to online property records.

BLDG Management is planning a new tower with a swimming pool and basketball court on the second floor and 2,300 square feet of retail space on the first floor, The Real Deal reported.

The Department of Buildings has already issued a permit allowing the developer to demolish the current 11-story parking garage, according to online records.

BLDG Management did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Probably not much. Sad but true so many construction workers now are illegal aliens, nobody cares much.

I don't think he is intending a message of hate. What he's saying is that often contruction companies do harbor illegals and have records of mismanagement and accidents going against regulations from DOT,DEP,EPA, City construction practices, and so on. This is true btw. Following NYC projects, this is a big trend. Its hard to convey emotion via text, but what I interpret is that he's expressing sympathy for them because often such accidents go unnoticed and there aren't proactive steps to correct them.

But he is correct in saying that it won't change much because it often doesn't. Accidents, via labor practices, things that go against OSHA and so on do continue.

Why aren't such accidents noticed or at least reported unless they are big ones? Because companies don;'t want to pay the fees associated with it, so often injuries go unreported, especially if its a company that uses labor from illegals. It sucks, but its the reality, especially in NYC real estate.

Essentially the lesson to be learned is that if you think construction workers have it good, the reality may scare you. Lots of shady things go on in companies that go against regulations. All about perception as my past boss said who runs a real estate consulting firm. If you can make them believe everything's okay, then they will not check.
