Still wish the hole could've been circular, like the original design, but it's still a very attractive structure.

After the Freedom Tower, isn't this supposed to be the safest building in the world? They have crossbeams behind the facade and they also have crossbeams in the core.

Yup, you forgot to add in that there are panic levels every 15 something floors, notable by the spacing in the glass.

It is exactly that I wrote in beginning. I still also prefer the round hole one of first designs instead the squared built. It would be more harmonic. But ok, here we are with sharp angles.

I also wish for the circle, but it's still my absolute favourite +1000ft building under construction right now.

I can't wait for the views giallo.

Yeah, get us some pics! You're so lucky.

Personally I like the square hole better since it looks better (IMO). The round hole looked way too out-of-place (again IMO). With the square hole there's also a hanging observation deck which is sooo cool!

Just wish more days in Shanghai were perfectly clear with a few puffy clouds; that would make this tower the best photogenic skyscraper over 1,000 feet ever. I'd rather see daily updates on this building than on the Burj Dubai.

Yea I think the current hole looks better. Runs parallel to the roof.

And yes this is a kick ass design, even though it's the world's largest bottle opener!

I cannot even fathom what this city will look like in 20 years.

Personally, I like the hole that they built over the round one.

^^^ Actually this design seems more a hanging ear jewel for women than a bottle opener . It is sure the square hole is more in consonance with the bldg lines as it is a closed hole with paralel lines of the huge glassy volume. Which makes the design kick ass is the surface cutting the edges from bottom to top making the torsional hole possibility perpendicular to the diagonal edges. This is the most wonderful and unique in this bldg in my opinion. The hole itself is just a comma design detail more.

I likethe square hole much more than the circular. Not only does it flow with the building but it removes the Japanese trash inspiration from this beaut.

I'm very pleased with how this building has turned out. A great compliment to the beautiful Jin Mao, and well worth the very long wait.

As will I. I can't wait to see Shanghai from the highest observation deck in the world.
