The 200 room Hilton hotel will be 18 stories tall.
Hemisfair Park will be transformed drastically with the midrise office tower, and midrise residential towers, and the hotel, with more still coming on the southeast side of the park!

I know this is a skyscraper forum, but I thought some people might like to see a picture of a grassy lawn.

The grass does seem to be coming in quite nicely.

It would have been nice if they had left the Northside of Hemisfair open like this, dropped Market street below grade, and continued the park all the way to the river. I know that would have cost a fortune, but dare to dream.

Yes, but it's okay because I'm licensed to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. A man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

Almost wish they'd just keep it as a big, public, empty green for a while. Sometimes those kinds of spaces can be super cool for basically no money. Anyone who's been to Tempelhof Field in Berlin will know what I mean. There they basically just abandoned their centrally located airport and let people use it as a park, and people just kind of do whatever they want with the empty space. It's pretty interesting. They could at least take the fence down while we're waiting for the Civic Park to get started.

I so agree, it would be really nice to just have it open.

But i think they are working on some water works stuff on the south part of it.

Made me laugh again months later.

I agree about the big open park idea. Oh well, what will be there will also include some park space within a thoughtful complex with plenty of ground level retail, which will make it a nice public space.

These gondolas were recently brought to the park to remember the old swiss von roll sky ride. I actually wish we could put a sky ride system back into the park. I always thought a great connection by air would be from the Rivercenter Mall over the riverwalk, over Commerce, over Market, over the riverwalk more, and over the convention center and into the park. I'll keep dreaming.

Just a note for San Antonio forumers not privy to the ongoing Austin subthread discussions: that's from a website section dedicated to projects that never came to fruition.

So that rendering of what hemisfair could be isn't actually real? It looks so well thought out and well-rendered to not be somewhat legitimate.

It was likely one of the official bids for the development project that wasn't picked.

Zachry won the bid, but who’s to say they didn’t get Gensler to design it?
