Ambassador Hotel and Notre Dame Cathedral Fire Comparisons

Why did the Ambassador Hotel in Dallas burn to the ground and why did Notre Dame Cathedral survive basically intact when it caught fire. Both fires occurred during renovation work and were like a month and a half apart.

Both buildings are very different, structurally. Look at pictures of Notre Dame, taken from the inside of the nave, looking up at that vaulted ceiling. Those stone vaults are structural, and help hold the building together. Aside from being punctured in a couple of spots, it held, and kept fire from consuming the entire inside of the building.

How was the Ambassador Hotel constructed by contrast.
