Well...

I only remembered that one since I liked that it looked unique, but didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Unlike Batman across the street. Actually like both though.

Anyway, back to SA...

Tower Life is one of my favorite buildings in the state. It's a classy structure with beautiful, period elements and luckily it's had good stewards over the years. It's always a great sight to see from the riverboats when they make their way along the course. Something about seeing the facets of the building from that perspective is really neat.

Further research shows:

Tulsa: 320 South Boston Building (1929) - 4 feet shorter
Houston: JPMorgan Chase Building (1929) - 24 feet taller
LA: Los Angeles City Hall (1927) - 50 feet taller
Minneapolis: Foshay Tower (1929) - 43 feet taller
Kansas City: Oak Tower (1929) - 25 feet shorter

Not the tallest west of the Mississippi when built, but definately the Pride of SA.
The Neils Esperson Bldg in Houston is also taller, and was built in 1927 (if you're not measuring with the antenna).

can we see a day when the office occupancy drops a little lower and they convert the building to residences?

i think the building is about 70% occupied at this point.

can you imagine living there?

Your right The Tower Life building would make an amazing residential building. I'm always amazed at how empty the building is. Lokking at it from my office you can see directly through a good chunk of the building. The floor plan must be completely wide open on the vacant floors.

You are correct, I missed that one. It is 6' taller.
