It appears that the base is not encased in concrete and it does sit on top of the mat - so maybee .....

Bottom of the ( thick ) mat - you can see one of the caissons poking up.

Not built into the walls/collums

Framing around the bottom tower section.

Did anyone else see the full page ad for Waterview in the Trib Sunday Magazine? It was page 3, but I don't have a scanner handy.

What happens to the space that the tower currently occupies when construction is completed? Is it simply poured as an additional pillar?

Dumbwaiter ?

A friend was told (by the agent) that on his condo tower the pipe/shaft for the concrete pump was filled up at the end for added strength

UPDATE

-Look for cladding/glazing to begin being installed sometime during the first couple of weeks of December

-Also, the transfer floor on 28 should take about 6-8 weeks

Yes,

And I have also just confirmed that it's a self rising crane. It will do so until the setback, then it will rise along the outside of the structure because of the buildings profile after the setback.

I kind of thought basically all tower cranes (of the sort used on Chi's towers) were self-rising. I understand though that there are different ways a crane can self-rise.

Could someone explain?

With a self-rising crane, no additional pieces are added, but the crane hydrauically jacks itself up once more height is needed. This crane will end up being both. Once they reach the 28th floor setback, the crane will rise along the outside of the building like at One Museum Park, then they will add tower sections when needed.

I had no idea that 300 N. LaSalle was in such close proximity to waterview. I am even more excited about these two projects now.

And not too far away along the river - Trump Tower Chicago, the Waldorf=Astoria, and the Spire... that's gonna be one hell of a sight when they're all completed.

Wouldn't that be upstream?
Great project, and it amazes me how they are doing this in such a small area.
