You know, I hate to be this guy. And I know this topic has been beat to death.

Reading the Free Press article on "Project W" (Westin hotel) and the comments are so ridiculous. I can't believe how ignorant people really are and how much people complain about the major developments going on downtown. Well I can believe, but still.

This tower is too small.
Condos, who would live there?
Oh sure, Sammy probably gave all taxpayers money.
NDP vs. Con. (most of this has nothing to do with politics)
etc.
etc.

It really makes you want to stop looking.... Just a bunch of trolls...

I don't care about "free speech" anymore. I just wish they would eliminate the comments sections in the Sun and FP. There is almost never any useful dialogue that results from them, and just makes Winnipeg and Winnipeggers look stupid and uneducated.

To be fair though, these are issues that Calgary and Edmonton are having with their comment sections in their local online papers too.

I'm just starting to scan the comments now, I used to actually read them....It's become a real downer sometimes, you have to wonder as well how many of the comments are actual Winnipeg/Man. residence?...oh well, we try...to change opinions here and there but it's not an easy task..

As soon as our kids are big enough, I drag one or two of them along and go back to fishing along the Assiniboine every so often. There is just not enough free time these days to spend the afternoon sitting and fishing.

The comments section is a source of revenue for them. Ad revenue is based on number of hits and the comments sections increase hits.

I do lots of boating but never got into fishing. Just sitting on or tinkering with the dock or boat, or anchoring out for the day is my favourite way do spend a summer day.

This is essentially a newspaper comments section...without the newspaper.

We have a more civilized discourse, and more of a community identity than a newspaper comments section.

The only similarity is that they're both full of semi-anonymous comments about various topics. The fact that a discussion can continue here for days or months or even years makes this a better place to discuss things than a newspaper website, where a story disappears after a day or two and then the conversation ends.

Nothing wrong with that River, not everybody's into fishing. Hanging out on the river or a lake is good enough for me some days, working on something or relaxing. Sometimes people just take for granted we have waterways in this city..

Whether you are on a 60 foot yacht with A/C and central vacuum, a family runabout with the kids, fishing in a tinnie or putting around in a Zodiac, the cool breeze and the sunshine sparkling on the water is the same.

If your boat is floating in Lake Superior, that "cool breeze" is more of a "cold gust".

?? I said people sometimes forget we have water ways in this city, and take it for granted? Why would you want me to list cities not based around a river/lake? I could if you like, but that's obviously not the point of the comment, unless you live on a body of water..most drive to work everday, maybe drive over a bridge..but many don't give it a second thought?.When others spend much of thier lives on a river/lake and make it a "Part" of thier lives? hmm..

Not High Life but rather Miller Genuine Draft (12 pack) I just purchased for a crazy $25.75, looks like I have to start spending more time in the US where liquor prices allow me to indulge in my passion. DO away with the MLCC and it's socialist, monopolistic sale and distribution and lets see what prices really should be, why should everything I purchase legally in this province fund social services and POOR government. EOR

I spend a lot of time in both Alberta and Ontario, and generally alcohol seems to be on par with the prices here. Those two provinces are pretty much on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of liquor laws. I think it would be a cool thread for the Canada section, comparing alcohol prices across the country.

I do agree that the $14 forties at duty free are a nice treat though...
