Noticed that the McDonald's is now open. That was pretty quick.

The apartment block is about one floor above grade.

Construction could start as early as 2029...

This place should have been sunken with a Vanier diamond interchange ten years ago. Nope.

I drove by this tonight, what a great approach they are taking that you see is followed in Quebec and not in Ontario. Build residential areas as part of the commercial big box areas.

In Gatineau, you see it at:

- Destination V
- Agora
- Du Plateau (with the retirement residences across Canadian Tire)
- Galeries Aylmer with the retirement residences attached and across the street

and there are may example througout Quebec (Dix30, Solar Quartier and Quartier Laval are examples)

This creates a walkable community.

To use an as example, Trainyards in Ottawa has so many commercial options for people with a central location, but no thought to include walkable residential opportunities.

Great to see this in Aylmer and hope to see more.

I'm not sure that Destination V will be "walkable" in the expected sense of that word.
Yes, people who live in those buildings will technically be able to walk to grocery, pharmacy, banking, a food court of sorts, and other services, but the property is still just a series of weirdly and confusingly connected parking lots with essentially 1 exit for about 50% of the vehicular traffic. That exit also spills onto a hideously congested arterial that will not see relief for at least 5 years.
They have a lot of work ahead to make it even remotely pedestrian-friendly.

This model is certainly better than exclusively big box retail, but still nowhere near where we need to be (other than Agora).

Train Yards for sure needs some of this, along with a link to Tremblay Station.

There is supposed to be another block of apartments built to the south of that place (next to Jean-Coutu) just as large as this one under construction.

The Katimavik extension to Allumettières will more than likely be built by then. God I hope it is not another signalled intersection..

So I heard this rumour once this new IGA opens, the one in Aylmer (on principale) will be closed and demolished for condos?

That would be like opening a new Loblaws in Orleans and then closing the one in Gloucester. Not at all the same clientele.

I hope your source is wrong good sir.

I spoke with someone at IGA at des Grives today.. they confirmed that the one on Principale is closing in May (when the Vanier one is supposed to open).
