Had they used that grey/blue brick in place of the dark grey and white panelling, this building would look immensely better. At least for the first four floors.

This backsplash, kitchen tile design on building needs to die. At least in this city.

Great to hear this, but Lightfoot is going to make enemies with half the council on day one

In Tribune interview, Chicago Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot sketches out plans for a new City Hall
Quote:
Among her plans: A day one executive order banning the veto power aldermen hold over zoning and permitting in their wards; new investigative oversight of the City Council; possible budget relief and new taxing authority from Springfield; and approval of an elected Chicago school board.
....
But ending the practice in which aldermen have final say over permitting and zoning in their wards is not as simple as erasing the authority from the city code: It can’t be found there. Instead, aldermanic privilege, or prerogative as some call it, is a decadeslong tradition in which fellow aldermen and the mayor have deferred to the wishes of the local alderman when it comes decisions in his or her ward.

Lightfoot said she plans to address the matter by mayoral fiat the day she takes over the suite of offices on City Hall’s fifth floor.

“I’m thinking about an executive order from day one that says in more legalese than this: ‘This is not a thing. We will no longer honor this,’” Lightfoot said. “Because the way that aldermanic prerogative works is there’s got to be compliance with the executive branch, because otherwise it doesn’t work. So, you’ve got to eliminate that compliance, and you make it a mandate.”

Lightfoot said she would start by hiring department heads and deputies who will be “pledging allegiance to the new world order and good governance” and then train those people and their staffs — especially in agencies such as planning, zoning, buildings and housing where aldermen frequently deploy the practice. She then would direct Inspector General Joseph Ferguson to do spot audits to ensure compliance.

This is amazingly good news, especially in light of the anti-development aldermen and women that will be taking office soon.

great news!

my cousin's husband works for the Fire and told me this plan was in the works when i last saw him at the family Xmas party back in december, but he said it was all very hush-hush at that moment.

Pullman Artspace Lofts progress April 5 2019

The developer of this project posted a progress picture today. Hoping this turns out like the rendering, because we need subsidized housing to look more like this and less like that Logan Square project!

And here's the rendering for the project for those who forgot.

That's great. Maybe it could go by the Western Orange Line station.

^ that would work for me. that is a GIANT piece of land.

i don't really care where the Fire play as long as it's in the city.

put it somewhere more transit accessible and watch attendance skyrocket.

the move out to bridgeview was one of the most boneheaded mistakes of all time.

Wow, all three finalists for the UIC project look interesting. I want to see a normal ground view of the OMA candidate. My favorite is Marklee/Urbanworks. I'm a sucker for curved glass like that.

Chicago Fire relo: The Western orange line is a good physical site but absolutely no walkable entertainment for after game. Looks pretty industrial and residential.

Southwest parking lot at UC would be ideal. IMD Blue line, planned Damen Green line provide transit and the expanding West Loop offers at least quick acess via shared ride for after game libation. And it would further the UC entertainment zone and eliminate a parking scar.

But I do like the Soldier Field experience for soccer-great venue and an internationally known site. It just doesn't have great transit. hard to get to from the west and everything is west of Soldier field.

I thought the same thing. Morphosis is getting colorful lately.

I mentioned this like a year ago but I would love to see a massive sports complex on the land bounded by 63rd/State and the chicane of the Dan Ryan. It could have direct transit connections to the Red Line and a new Englewood station for Metra incorporated into a large campus featuring a new stadium for the Sox and Fire and maybe even a velodrome on site. What a view that would have looking north up 90/94 to the Loop. Just a dream of mine. Not sure anyone else sees it.

I was thinking about this the other day and I wonder if a new stadium could be built next to Guaranteed Rate Field. Don't the White Sox and Fire have some sort of partnership anyway? But near the United Center would be good too. Heck I know Soldier Field is iconic but if the Bears ever moved just build the new stadium there too.
