cafe au lait with caltrane.

Walked by the Shangri la this morning and decided to do a quick update. Also decided to accompany my morning cafe/coffee updates with pictures from my cellphone. Ill bust out my real camera tomorrow. Shangri La is beauty and the beast all rolled into one. Its coming along, and I really enjoy updating this one. Did a quick walkby update on Four Seasons yesterday. That one is getting so tall and is visible from many angles in Yorkville now.

Shangri la defining the new Toronto west of University, where a great portion of the downtown highrise construction will take place from here on in.

Things are getting exciting again in the big city..... wellcome to the TDOT.

cafe au lait with caltrane.

It was a tough this morning figuring out which UC tower to photograph for my morning coffee. But because I was out yesterday, with my camera I decided to go with the old standby, Shangrila which is oozing as much class as the Four seasons is with its blinged out exterior. The Bones of the tower quite evident now as it marches another 60 storeys or so before it eventually tops out.

They are doing the forming work on the 8th floor of the Shangrila Hotel now. And because there are 65 floors in total we have 57 floors remaining. Also if you look at my larger images you will begin to see the forms and creases which will create the angled effect in the glass when the cladding goes up.

hey, did you notice the gently angling floor slabs of concrete on the right hand side? This is what will create the folding glass look when the curtainwall is installed in a few months time. That is probably the most distinictive feature of this entire project..

Hey, just walked by the Shangrila Toronto, and they have finished forming the columns on the 8th floor level, so I suspect that by the end of the week we should see the beginnings of the 9th floor forming underway here. Shangrila, where it is now is the most exciting project for me to watch, maybe next year when its up 40 or so storeys, I might not care as much.....But right now its very fun to watch.

Well this tower is moving at a good clip now as you are witness to from the above pictures, that I have uploaded or shared with you. The basic outline of the tower is now clear as is the sharp design of the podium. At my count there are 9 completed floors which means we still have 56 floors to go. Notice that even as it stands right now it is dominating the streetwall from this early stage of development.

Flyforming on the 9th floor is continuing this morning. By the end of the week we will likely see the setup stages for the 10th floor. This one is ripping now.

It's already getting pretty tall compared to the surrounding buildings. I would say that once it hits 15+ storeys, it'll be slightly taller already...

Ya Davis, you are probably right. This one by the time it hits the 15th floor, will likely be taller than all the surrounding buildings. Its also, quite a large building as well, so its set to obtain skyscraper supremacy by the time the first snow hits Toronto in late December or Early January.

Shangrila Update October 13th:

Forming on the 10th floors has begun. Work has also started on the construction hoist which is also up about 3 levels.
