Yup. Going into the trailer on east upper Wacker, which is where the entrance to the hotel will go. How things have changed over 15 years. And we've witnessed it all.

Have already met with a sales agent 2 weeks ago. Got in early through a contact in Shanghai who introduced me to the one of the sales people in the Chicago sales center. Contracts are in place for about 12-15% of units as of then.

^^^ Hmmmm, I think the Vista Tower in Chicago is a more unified design than that amalgam. Also, Royal Dutch Shell should hire some better architects. Blarghh.

If 12-15% of the condos were already sold over 2 weeks ago, there is going to be a hotel, and this is backed by a Chinese Zillionaire, then this puppy is going to rise, rise rise.

Although the skyline impact is its most prominent feature, I have to admit that I'm more interested in this project finally addressing connectivity issues in that part of town. I really hope that the connection between LSE's park and the river walk is handled gracefully and is inviting as opposed to some half assed afterthought with some buzzing neon lights and a art installation from some obscure local artist. LSE's park is a gem, it needs to be connected to the districts around it for everybody to enjoy.

I was just walking back to my hotel in Kuala Lumpur when I spotted it. It's just south of the big new Sentral Station (Malaysia seems to be the one place where phonetic English spelling reform actually took hold).

I thought we all knew to divide by four any "percent of units already sold" claims made by sales offices.

Yeah, I googled "shell" "ascott" "building" and found it... very funny... so what brought you to Kuala Lumpur? (Sentral Station joke also much appreciated)

^Big 40-day trip visiting the cities of Southeast Asia.

I wasn't joking about the phonetic spelling of words borrowed from English. You go to the mesin tiket to pay your fare before boarding the monorel or the komuter tren. If you're headed to Penang Island, the feri departs from the jeti.

The entire time I was like "This design is vaguely familiar" - now I remember I've seen this building in KL. Malaysia has a bunch of funky architecture you won't see anywhere else (Here's one I snapped a few years ago: https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...82&oe=56DB1DA4). I miss Malaysia - best food ever.

Wanda Vista still a go, developer says:

The shockwaves shaking the once-surging Chinese economy aren't throwing a roadblock in the path of the planned Wanda Vista Tower, the hotel-condominium skyscraper that would be Chicago's third tallest building, the project's developer told me last week.
.......

"We have had no indication that it's anything but a go," said Jim Loewenberg, co-chief executive officer of Magellan Development. The company plans to apply for a building permit in June and hopes to start construction in late summer or early fall.
